Song Of The Unfortunate by Tagore translated by Ranu

Song Of The Unfortunate                 Rabindranath Tagore

What’s the use of shedding tears or sighing.

We will mock  destiny with smiling faces.

Those of us who’ve lost everything and are penniless,

will ridicule destiny with smiling faces.

We don’t live under the shadow of prosperity.

Sadness and dishonesty does not scare us.

Despite our fate we will continue to celebrate our victory.

We will lift our banner high  in the blue sky.

We will make fun of destiny with our smiling faces.

  1. Dear Ranu,

Thank you very much for this.

To me, this speaks to an enduring trust in what does not perish, despite outwardly changing circumstances of disappointment and suffering. When I read this, I think of Iqbal’s adamant pointing toward the Sacred locus in humanity.

    All good wishes,

    robert
