DP Daily Prompt: The satisfaction of a list Posted by Ranu

My favourite list is shopping in different cities of the world: My  first stop is Montreal,I went shopping for coats, the store is: Manteau Manteau. It was the fall season and I needed a coat for myself. The sales woman was a very nice lady, she knew at once I was a buyer not a window shopper. She showed me a variety of coats. I settled for a black one,the colour and the style and of course the price was tempting.I bought it, then I looked for a cap and scarf.I bought them too.I made a big mistake, both the scarf and cap are woollen. They are itchy. I wear them to be warm but they are not comfortable.

My second stop was Macy’s in Chicago. I looked for pants and tops, they had some beautiful ones. I bought a half a dozen of each.

In Toronto I bought some warm parkas for me and my kids.

Another place I love shopping is London,England.I bought a bag from a reputable store,I’ve just forgotten the name.I bought it on a Friday, the next day the zipper broke. My brother lives in London,I was visiting him.I took the bag to a store near his house to get the zipper fixed. The sales girl told me to take it back to the store,I bought the bag a day ago. I wasn’t too confident, in my home town they simply refuse to take it back even if I bought it an hour ago. I was ready to hear no Ma’am I can’t take it back.I went inside and stood quietly in the corner waiting for a salesman to appear. Within minutes one appeared,I told him about the bag,he took it and came back and apologized ,he didn’t have a replacement. He showed me one that was slightly larger.I was so impressed by him I bought the larger one.

My next favourite place to shop is Boston, they have large stores, one can buy anything, they have a variety of clothes. The best time to visit these places is Spring a lot of winter clothes go on sale.

I love shopping in Dhaka. There are so many different varieties of Sarees,I feel like buying them all. But I have to check my temptation. I do get some. I love shopping whenever I visit a new city, I make sure to buy something even if it is just a souvenir!

Shakespeare and Tagore(great minds) Posted by Ranu

Shakespeare

Shakespeare (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

This morning I suddenly thought of Shakespeare and Tagore. Shakespeare was born in 1564 and died in 1616. Tagore was born May 8th  1861 and died on  seventh august 1941.

Shakespeare was an English poet and playwright .He was widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world’s pre-eminent dramatist.

Tagore is a towering figure in the millennium-old literature of Bengal. He composed about seven thousand poems, songs, short stories ,novels, dramas, musicals, letters and essays altogether. He won Nobel Prize in Literature for the English version of his collection of Bengali songs Geetanjali( an offering in songs).

Shakespeare in his play As You Like It,writes about the birth and death of a human being in the most interesting way.He portrays   humankind in this play very skilfully.  About the infant he says: ” At first the infant, mewling and puking in the nurse’s  arms”.

Tagore also writes about the infant in a much different way: he says,” tomar holo shuru, for you it’s the beginning”.

In the second stage, Shakespeare says;”then the whining schoolboy, with his satchel and shining morning face, creeping like a snail.Unwilling to go to school.

In the third stage: Shakespeare writes; “And then the lover, sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad  made to his mistress’ eyebrow.

The third stage in Tagore’s song is:”You have a companion”.

In the fourth stage Shakespeare writes: “Then a soldier, full of strange oaths and bearded like the pard, jealous in honor ,sudden and quick in quarrel, seeking the bubble reputation”.

In comparison, Tagore writes: “You have a boat”.

The next stage in Shakespeare’s poem is: “Then the justice ,in fair round belly with good capon  lined, full of wise saws and modern instances. And so he plays his part.

The fifth stage in Tagore’s poem is: “You are sitting calmly”.

Shakespeare’s sixth stage is: “Into the lean and slippered pantaloon, with spectacles on nose and pouch on side; His youthful hose ,well saved,a world too wide. For his shrunk shank, and his big manly voice, turning again toward childish treble, pipes and whistles in his sound”.

In the last stage Shakespeare says:  ” That ends this strange eventful  history. Is second childishness and mere oblivion, sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything”.

Tagore sums up old age thus: ” For me it is the ending.I have the night before me.I have stars shining.I am restless and moving. My hand is old and worn out. I am free from fear.I don’t have to look for work. I have done everything. My journey therefore is ending”.

Both Shakespeare and Tagore have written about the beginning and ending of life. Although their way of portraying the stages of life  and death is very different. The conclusion is the same.

Hindi Movie Review Post by Ranu

The name of the movie is Jyoti. It is made in Bollywood. There are some fine actors in this movie. The problem here is the same old story of step mother’s treatment towards, the step son.I am not sure how a two year old can survive all that opium mixed with his milk daily. I am not a physician, but the question does arise in my mind, how this is being done to an infant and the father doesn’t have a clue.

There are too many villains in this movie. The step mother, her helper, then the step mother’s son and his evil friends. The movie is crowded with evil people, yet the man of the house is totally unaware of all this. The victim i.e the son of the previous wife gets married to a beautiful woman, who magically changes the crazy man into a sane human being.

The movie is full of violence,I don’t think it is necessary. It is not a good one to be shown to younger generation. In a world full of violence in real life. The producer and directors can help a lot by not having so much violence in their movies.

I watched the movie on youtube because of my two favourite actors.
