DP Daily Prompt: EarWorm Post by Ranu
My favourite is John Lennon’s song: “Imagine”
Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today
Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace
You, may say
I’m a dreamer ,but I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world
You, may say
I’m a dreamer,
But I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will live as one
This song speaks to me,in a way nothing else can.It has everything that tells me how to make the world a better place. The assortment of countries, possessions, greed, hunger, religions, all these are the problems of the world. Remove them and there will be peace and tranquility.
It’s my thought.
Dear Ranu,
Thank you very much for this.
This song by John Lennon immediately brings Iqbal to my mind. Lennon is speaking to nothing less than imaginging, dreaming, ideating a Marghdeen. That’s precisely where it all is birthed.
When I read, “Imagine there’s no countries…,” I hear Iqbal speaking to deleterious effects of so-called “patriotism,” and turning one’s nation into an idol.
All good wishes,
robert
You know Robert, this is exactly what I thought. As I was copying the lyrics I wanted to write this is what Iqbal had in mind when he
spoke of Marghdeen.Thank you,Robert for pointing it out.
