I understand evening has taught those two eyes

compassion ,

shadow falls on your heart

and opens up the pupils

who knew before how much was hidden

secretly in your heart___

I see my own heart with

your vision.

You didn’t sing but quietly

you taught me___

with peaceful dreamy melody

you tied my soul.

I look up and sing the same tune

One  at a time all the melodies

disappear  into the sky.

  1. Dear Ranu,

This is a lovely poem. I love the first lines. Thank you for sharing this.

    All good wishes,

  2. In true mystic tradition Tagore finds God reaching to him first through nature and then through his own self. According to Sufi thoughts this is how God reaches us, first we see nature with our eyes and at that moment God is seeing us through nature’s eyes. Then in an inward outward reversal we begin to see things from nature’s eye and God starts to see through our eyes, our heart and our imagination!

The poem is an interesting and alternate view of nature of things. Nice translation and a very good selection.

    • Thank You Akhtar Bhai,it is one poem I never saw until I leafed through the pages. It sounded so good ,I had to translate it.
I am very glad you liked it.Thanks again.I loved your interpretation.
