About me and my hometown sabethville
A lot has changed since I wrote about Sabethville. I just started writing about something, anything to keep me going. There was no structure ,no theme ,no genre. I was busy filling out pages initially. Someone said, “you are a Bengali, translate Tagore’s poems.” The idea was awesome but inexperienced me translating poems and songs of the greatest Bengali poet that I know of,is not a piece of cake.
I grew up reciting his poems, singing his songs. I was contented to do just that. I never thought I’d ever be asked to translate his poems and songs that I loved.
I sat down one day and thought,”Bengali is my language Tagore’s songs and poems are written in the language I’ve spoken from my childhood, how hard can it be. I started translating, see I never think how much I’m capable of doing. If that thought had penetrated my brain,I probably wouldn’t have finished the first one. Luckily I did not let that thought spoil my writing ability.
I noticed there were only a few who stopped by. I wondered which path shall I take my writing to create interest. I haven’t discovered anything yet.I’d keep trying and see if anything changes.
I’ve joined some writing challenges. My purpose is the same, I want to see if it helps.
Yesterday I read an article where it said,”who are you writing for, yourself or others, you should write for yourself and one other person and be happy.”
This was something I didn’t think about, I was embarrassed at the thought I only have one or maybe two readers of my posts. So I have decided I’ll write for myself and my good buddies i.e., Robert and Shaidi.
If others want to stop by and read it,I’d be delighted. But I wouldn’t be discouraged, if only my two buddies remind me they are still there to encourage me!!
Dear Ranu,
Thank you for sharing this post about writing and blogging.
I don’t worry about who reads my blogs. The writing is not made any more worthy if lots of people read it. And it’s no less valuable if no one reads it.
All good wishes,
robert
I like your opinion and it’s true. Thanks Robert.
Oh Robert don’t make me laugh. I guess I was thinking of different opinions. You are right, worthy or unworthy cannot be decided by how many read it. It’s all about the content.
Very well put Robert. Beautiful indeed!
Ranu, I am so glad that you didn’t stop and think of what you are capable of doing before you started to translate Tagore. You are a natural and it appears like you do so with such ease, I have truly enjoyed reading them. 🙂 Best wishes.
Thank you Sonya,I was wondering what is keeping you busy.Show yourself a bit more, please with your amazing poetry.
Thank you for your comment and encouraging words.
