Have you ever become obsessed with something? Tell us about something that captivates your attention like nothing else.
Ever since I started taking online course of the great Philosopher and Poet Iqbal my heart and soul is captivated by his poetry and his philosophical outlook on God and Man .
In one of his poem’s he says: Man must heighten his self hood to such an extent so that before formulating the destiny of man, God would ask ,”What would you rather be.”
Secondly he says,: Rest is all but impossible in this workplace of nature.Change alone is changeless in this world.”He says in another poem “The disintegrating river bank said: Though long have I lived , Alas I have not discovered who I am. An ecstatic wave rippled past swiftly and said: I am if I move :If I move not I die.”Because a ripple cannot exist unless it moves . This is the secret of existence.
Again he says , one should continue to have longing for development. He thinks it is not enough to achieve something.Do not rest on your laurels he says; be restless! He encourages us to constantly yearn and desire. He says,”I would not exchange my Man’s station for all the splendors of Godhead.”
I would rather be Man than become God, he says , some might say he was a heretic. He thinks God is perfection, to him perfection has no potential for growth. Therefore it stagnates, perfection cannot develop anymore. So I would not like to be God, I would like to remain as a man.
About the theme of constant battle and self-testing he says: Life is to make a pearl from your own inner oyster.”
On the attack on color or race he says : “We are born of this garden, and stem from a single branch,we are nurtured by the same Springtide’s bounty.– the same spring for all flowers of all colors.”
I truly believe if we as human beings overlooked our differences and worked with what is similar in us, we can build a safe and happy planet for us and our future generations. This thought has captivated my mind ever since I started the online courses.
