365 days Writing Prompt: Teleport

If you could travel to any location in the universe– where would you travel and why.

I would like to travel to an unknown place, where like that song I learned in school, where never is heard a discouraging word and the sky is not cloudy all day.

It would be awesome to live somewhere where there are no evil people killing innocent women to prove they are strong, robbing the inhabitants of their joy of a good life.

If someone could assure me there is such a place in the universe, I’d pack up and leave instantly never to return to see or hear about the horrific crimes committed by monsters who have no love for someone else’s life.

Can we expect to see this in our world, can we wipe away crime, get rid of dishonest people, who are parasites, maybe someday when the world  undergoes  a monumental change where the criminals are put away for good. This is a universe I’d like to see, I wouldn’t have to move anywhere but stay where I am!!

DP Daily Prompt: Climate Control

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

The idea that the weather and the people’s moods is connected is quite old.Do you agree? If yes, how does the weather affect your mood?

I agree the weather is connected with people’s moods. The past winter is proof of that, I remember when the snow started in December I thought, good it will end in February and we’d have a gorgeous spring and summer.

My calculation was wrong, the snow continued to fall beyond February, the days were too cold, the thought of snow and clearing it was a nightmare, then the town plow would show up like a giant monster blocking our driveway which we just finished clearing. When this happens everyday, it is impossible to be in a  good mood.

I know weather is responsible for our moods, good or bad!

365 days Writing Prompt: Fight or Flight

When faced with confrontation, do you head for the hills or walk straight in? Was there ever a time you wished you’d had the opposite reaction?

In life we as humans face a lot of confrontations, sometimes I walk straight in, other times I try to ignore them.

Once I bought a shop vac and brought it home, when my daughter tried to put it together she noticed a part was missing, without that part the equipment was useless.

Next day I took it to customer service, the lady looked at it and said, “I’m sorry you cannot return those.”

Without asking me why I brought it back she gave me a reply which I wasn’t ready to hear. I wasn’t going to head for the hills, I took the confrontation approach, “What do you mean you wouldn’t take it back,” I said.

She said, “customers buy these take them home, use it and bring it back, our policy is not take them back.”

I was not pleased, I replied, “look you should ask the question why I brought it back and you shouldn’t assume all the customers are the same.”

She was ready to listen, I showed her there was a part missing, I could not use it without the part. I returned the shop vac and came home.

DP Daily Prompt: Futures Past

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? How close are you from that vision?

I love talking about my childhood, in my early years in school,I had no idea what I wanted to be when I grew up. I was always concerned about the present, one of my weakness was ‘homework’, if I got it done it was great, if not what kind of punishment will I endure, especially when nuns are your teachers. I didn’t wait to see I took matters in my own hand, pretended I was sick. Some days my excuse was it’s too cold, or I had a headache or stomach ache.

While it satisfied my father it didn’t my big sister, she’d scream at the top of her lungs accusing Dad for spoiling me.Then there was my big brother who’d sit by my side and with a broad smile would ask,”what was your excuse today?”

I of course would reply, “Do not talk too much big brother.”

This excuse of mine went on for a while, my father never questioned me, I’m sure he knew I was making an excuse to skip school.

When my father died the whole thing changed in my life , we moved to my parents city, my brother bought a house for us to live. There was no fooling around with school, big brother was at the helm, not knowing what he’d do made me very cautious, I started thinking about what I wanted to do when I grew up,the idea of teaching was on the top of my list.

I studied as much as I needed to get through in school,in college the pattern didn’t change, when I stepped in the university it suddenly dawned on me, I must study seriously or I’d fail the courses. I worked hard, my teachers were pleased with my performance, I was slowly reaching the top of the ladder of success, big sister of course was not ready to believe me but my teacher’s did which was more important than what my sister thought.

My final step to success was an education degree, which I was able to get without much trouble. My sister thought I shouldn’t tell anyone I have an education degree, people will make fun of you she said!

DP Daily Prompt: Trick Questions

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

A Pulitzer–Prize winning reporter is writing an in–depth piece–about you. What are the three questions you really hope she doesn’t ask you?

The three questions I really hope she wouldn’t ask me are: 1. Who is your favorite person?

2. If you had a choice where would you spend

your vacation?

3. How many strange people did you meet in

your life, who is the one person you liked?

Possible answers: My favorite person changes every second, you can understand why I want to avoid this question.

If I had a choice I’d stay home day and night, watch TV, read a book and catch up on my sleep.

The third question is better than the first two, I meet strange people all the time how can I say how many or if there is one who is my favorite.

The Pulitzer–Prize winning reporter will have to find someone else to answer her questions, I’m certainly not capable of helping her to win another Pulitzer–Prize!

365 days Writing Prompt: Weaving threads “The Discarded Pitcher”

Draft a post with three parts, each unrelated to the other, but create a common thread between them, an object, a symbol,, a place—in each part.

Mona found a pitcher stashed in the corner of her room, she was about to throw this dirty stained object, when suddenly she heard a voice, “this is a valuable object, do not throw it”, startled on hearing a voice in her one bedroom house, she looked around, there was nothing, she thought maybe it is her inner voice warning her. She lived alone ,there was no other person to tell her anything.

She went to work that morning, forgot about the pitcher, when she came home she found the pitcher missing, delighted she said to herself,”I’m so glad I didn’t have to discard this piece of junk.”

Meanwhile in another part of town, Rahim the carpenter was showing the pitcher to his friend Abdul, the friend looked at it with interest and asked, “where did you find it, let’s clean it up and see if you can sell it.”

After cleaning the pitcher, they realized it was an antique bronze pitcher with strange markings on it. Rahim found it on his way home, he picked it up and brought it home. Abdul who thought he was wiser than his friend, advised him to sell it, he said,”what if the owner is looking for it,you can be in serious trouble.”

Rahim was a very honest man, who never stole in his life, the very fact the pitcher was in his house will be a cause for concern, that night he dreamed he was in prison for stealing the pitcher, he tried to convince the guard he was not a thief, but his cries for mercy, was looked upon as a ploy to get out of prison, he woke up and found himself still crying. He went to his friend Abdul , told him about his dream, they decided they’d have to bury it far away from Rahim’s home.

Rahim felt better, he wrapped the pitcher with an old worn out shirt, he used for dusting, he got Abdul to help him bury this strange object which was the reason for his sleeplessness. They succeeded in burying it deep in the ground.

Days and months passed Rahim was happy, he and his friend were able to quietly bury the pitcher.

This time the pitcher landed in the home of a couple, it seemed their daughter was playing in their yard one day she found the pitcher outside wrapped in some old torn shirt, she was curious, picked it up and brought it home, when her mom saw it she told the daughter to throw it in the garbage. But the daughter wanted to keep it, reluctantly her mom agreed, she was not sure what she could do with it.

One day while cleaning it she heard a voice,it said, “I’m so glad you didn’t throw me away, I will make you the richest person in this city.”

The voice scared her so much, she fainted on the spot. Her husband came home and found the wife completely insane, he didn’t understand what happened to her, he thought it must be the pitcher ,he made up his mind to get rid of it immediately, which he did.

So the voice in the pitcher could not assure anyone, he’d change their life and ended up in a garbage dump!!

365 days Writing Prompt: Say your Name

Write about your first name: Are you named after someone or something? Are there any stories or associations attached to it? If you had the choice, would you rename yourself?

My first name is CHAMAN,  I am not named after someone but am named after something, the thing is a Garden.I presume my father was delighted to have a second daughter after double the number of sons, he I think consulted his dear friend, who was an artist and loved reading about names,my father went to him at the most opportune time, he was reading about names for girls and how they affect their personality.

“Eureka I have found a name for your daughter, he said, name her Chaman, it sounds beautiful and it means a garden, how can you go wrong with this name.”

My father rushed home, told my mother he’s found the best name, “it is Chaman, don’t you hear the rhythm of this name, it’s settled we’ll name her Chaman?” Then this excitement brought on other stories of the name, Urdu poets have written volumes of poetry centred around this exquisite name.

Chaman grew up to be a very inquisitive little girl, you could not tell her anything without answering her ‘Why’ questions that followed, her eldest brother tried to stop her by saying, “You know curiosity killed a cat, ‘how’ was her query. Elder brother gave up and felt with time this habit will no longer persist.

I love my name I’ll never think of changing it even if I had a choice. Would you change yours if there were so many magical stories attached to it?
