DP Daily Prompt:Picky Tongues

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

You have to choose one flavor that your sense of taste will no longer be able to distinguish.Sweet, sour, bitter, salty, Umami, spicy( not a taste per se,but we’re generous ): which one do you choose to lose?

I know I cannot have sugar only for taste because of the damaging effect on the human body, salt is the same, excessive salt raises blood pressure,I haven’t heard anything negative about bitter, but bitter flavor alone is not going to do it for me.

Umami flavor sounds good to me. It is good for health, it is a protein which is made up of amino acids which are essential for life. I will pick umami flavor.

365 Writing Prompt: The natural world

Describe your first memorable experience exploring and spending time in nature. Were you in awe? Or were younot impressed? Would you rather spend time in the forest of the city?

My first memorable experience spending time in nature was when we came to Newfoundland, Canada. My husband got a job in Gander, and we were told about the impressive park, close to Gander which took about forty minutes by car. It is where we saw nature in all its glory. We spent the whole day exploring different parts of the park. I’m posting an youtube video, which will show more of nature than I’d be able to describe.

DP Daily Prompt: By the Dots

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

We all have strange relationships with punctuation– do you overuse exclamation marks? Do you avoid semicolons like the plague? What type of punctuation could you never live without? Tell us about your punctuation quirks!

Punctuation is so important, sometimes it becomes tricky, my mind thinks I should use a period, my sentence says make it a little longer or else there’d be someone ready to criticize you. I was criticized once, I disliked the comment I thought this one is trying to assert how good s/h is. I got over it and was happy to notice that one does not come my way.

Do I overuse exclamation mark, I do not think I’m guilty of that, I use it sparingly. I do not use semicolons that much, I just don’t think about them.

I think I use period and comma a lot, I cannot do without them.

365 Writing Prompt: No longer a mortal

You’ve imbibed a special potion that makes you immortal. Now that you’ve got forever what changes will you make in your life? how will you live differently , knowing you’ll always be around to be accountable for your actions?

When I think of immortal, I think of all the definitions of this word: living forever; not mortal; divine;likely or worthy to be famous for all time; a person of enduring fame.

I think I’d rather be mortal than live up to any of these definitions. I am comfortable with the life I’m living, any change from it will not be desirable for me.

The fact that I’ll be expected to live differently is not a favorable option. The idea of trying things that I have not done before will be a pain for me, and the idea I’ll always be around to be accountable for my actions is not appealing to me.

I think I’m doing all right,I’m a good person. I am not anxious to be famous, fame can be a difficult thing.Think about Princess Diana, she was famous, she never had her privacy, there were people always ready to take advantage of her in all sorts of ways, she eventually paid the price, she  died at a very young age.

My life is simple,I go where I want to, I visit my friends without being interrupted by outsiders. I am free,  to me this is the best way of living my life. I do not mind being mortal.

DP Daily Prompt: Writing Space

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

Where do you produce your best writing–at your desk,on your phone, at a noisy cafe’? Tell us how the environment affects your creativity.

I do all of my writing in my bedroom, I have a small table, it is spacious enough to place my laptop and my telephone. I have all my books, papers pen and everything I need on my dresser, desk and filing cabinet. I feel comfortable I have all my things within reach.

For me my bedroom provides perfect environment, the TV is there for me if I want to take a break, I watch it for a few minutes and get back to work.

365 Writing Prompt: We can be taught

Tell us a moment or an incident that you treasure — not necessarily because it brought you happiness, because it taught you something about yourself.

In my childhood I was known for my curiosity, I was never satisfied with a simple answer to my question ,my family had to deal with my why questions,my eldest brother used to be tired of my continuous why questions so much he’d warn me about the famous phrase, “Curiosity killed a cat.”

This never changed my habit of asking the why questions. In 2010 I accidentally heard two verses of Poet and Philosopher Allama Iqbal’s poem, “Masjid toh bana di shab bhar mein” meaning you built the mosque in one night. It aroused my curiosity so much I had to find out why he wrote it ,to me there had to be a reason.I got the help of the internet and got my answer. I realized then how much I adored the writing of this man, I wondered how I could learn more about him.

I thought of my eldest brother who showed me a book where the words, “seek and you shall find” was on the cover of the book, I was eight years old, my brother asked if I understood what the words meant.I looked at him and said, “it means if you look for it you’ll find it.” I did not pay too much attention to it. Those words reverberated in my mind, ‘seek and you shall find.’ when I thought more of how to know more about this awesome Poet and Philosopher Allama Iqbal.

I was amazed how easily I found out what I wanted to know. I was introduced to another great personality via internet he helped me  register in the online course, which was all about Iqbal, I started taking the course since 2011 and am still doing it and learning more and more about my favorite poet.

It seemed to be an ordinary incident which started with my curiosity and ended up helping to know myself better than I ever knew. It has brought me the kind of happiness I never thought possible, one more time I’d conclude by saying,”Seek  And You Shall Find.”

Tagore Song :akash bhara

Starry skies, world full of life,

I am surrounded by them,

This astonishing sight

Awakens the song in my heart.

The surging waves,

ebb and flow of tide

oscillates the world

My paternal affection rises

at  this astonishing sight

and awakens the song in my heart.

On my way to the forest

my feet touches the grass,

My mind is thrilled

by the scent of flowers

that scatter the song of happiness

This astonishing sight

Awakens the song in my heart.

I listen, my eyes are wide open

I pour my heart to the world

I have discovered the unknown

In my inner self

This astonishing sight

Awakens the song in my heart!

DP Daily Prompt: Flavor #32

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

A local ice cream parlor invites you to create a new wacky flavor. It needs to channel the very essence of your personality. What’s in it?

Ice cream flavor , it’s not easy to create a wacky flavor, let me see we have superman, pistachio, vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, raspberry. We can buy any flavor we want, so to create a different one and a wacky one at that, I’m not sure it’s possible .

But having written that I think maybe I would like to create an ice cream which has all the flavors combined . This I think might give satisfaction of all the flavors in a single ice cream cone.

The grazing cattle are inviting me to watch them and see the beauty of nature.

Then there is a family sitting under the tree telling me this is fun come and join us.

Five sentence fiction: Dazzles

Lillie McFerrin Writes

Shama and Yusuf were a happy couple, they had everything going for them, they had a beautiful house, adorable parents, good jobs, only thing missing in their life was a child, who could fill the quiet house with laughter.

Shama was aware her in-laws wanted a grand kid, they were impatient, they thought the only way to solve this problem, was their  son should marry again, Yusuf disliked the idea, he told his parents, he was not interested.

The young couple decided to consult a physician, the physician gave them hope, within a year Shama gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, they named her Asha, soon their little baby was ready for school, she did remarkably well in school in the first year, parents were happy, the teachers told them she had incredible memory.

The following years were awesome for the couple, Asha finished school successfully, she was ready for college, in college she wowed her profs, it was the first time they had someone so outstanding in their class, they were proud of her and wished her well.

After completing her education, she applied for a job, the interviewer  was a young man, who did not give much credit to women, Asha stepped in his office and sat down, the young man was sure she wouldn’t be able to withstand the barrage of questions he would ask, her knowledge not only changed his impression of women, he was dazzled by the way Asha answered the questions!
