DP Daily Prompt: City Planners

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

If you could clone one element from another city you’ve visited— a building, a cultural Institution, a common street food, etc.– and bring it to your hometown, what would it be?

The idea of cloning is terrific, some of the institutions, buildings, shopping centers, common streets I’ve seen in another city or cities and bring back to my hometown, there are a few I’d like to have in my hometown e.g. “Oxford Street In London, England” is a grand addition to my hometown, or even “Selfridges”, here is one problem I’m bound to encounter, my hometown is not large enough for the store or the street that could be placed with ease.

Maybe I’d like to bring back the Jean Talon farmer’s market in Montreal, it’s not too large, it’s a place where you can see a variety of yummy foods and produce, oh but bringing some of the produce back to my hometown can be a stumbling block esp. produce which are not grown in my hometown, to bring them by truck is a worry because the produce will rot by the time it gets to my town.

My next option is to leave things as they are and be contented with the thought some things cannot change.

Flash Fiction: Wishes

Lillie McFerrin Writes

The Innocent Girl

Mariam a ten year old sat at the doorstep of her little hut, she was waiting for her parents return from work, it was getting dark, she saw no sign of her parents, fear clouded her mind, she could not understand what she should do.

In a fit of anxiety she went next door for help, she’d never seen or known them, but hoped they’d help, she gently knocked the door, to her surprise out came a man, he was scarier than her dark surrounding, everything about him waved a flag of caution to little Mariam, she disregarded her thoughts and asked for help, the man opened the door and let her in, he promptly closed the door, grabbed some rope from the back of his house and tied her.

“You are my prisoner, you must obey me, you have to cook, clean and look after my house, if you disobey, I’ll show you how evil I am.”

Mariam cried herself to sleep, she dreamed a  very pretty woman was watching her, she trembled and tried to get up, she couldn’t her body froze, “do not be afraid said the woman, I’m here to free you, you must do as I tell you, I will grant you three wishes, choose the ones you like most: 1. I can bring back your parents, 2. I can make the man disappear, 3. I will make you rich.”

Ten year old Mariam wanted her parents back and the evil man to disappear, she didn’t have any idea how being rich could help her, she told the woman what she wanted, with a wave of her wand, the parents were back and the evil man was gone, Mariam was happy and told her parents never to leave her again!

365 days Writing Prompt: You’ve got the power

You have the power to enact a single law. What would it be?

If I had the power, I’d make sure no one in the land is hungry. We all need food for sustenance, without it we are weak, we think of unimaginable things of how to get  food to satisfy our hunger, there have been stories of people eating human flesh to survive.

Hunger makes people steal, kill, it changes one’s personality, this is one thing that should be taken care of before we think of anything else.
