Fiction: The Story

Lillie McFerrin Writes

Felicia came home from school one afternoon, her mother asked the usual question, “How was school today?”

She shrugged her shoulders and said nothing, in the evening her friend Mabel came for a visit, she went to Felicia’s room ,her mother noticed they were whispering to each other, she stood behind the door to listen, she overheard them talking about a story, a story, is this why Felicia seemed worried, she kept quiet and went to fix supper.

Supper time Felicia’s mood was better, her mom didn’t ask any further question, she waited for her daughter to tell her why she looked unhappy that afternoon.

After supper the family went to their favorite place where they could discuss about their day, Mr. Stewart talked about his work, Mrs. Stewart discussed about her shopping in the super market, Felicia raised her hand and complained about the story they have to write, her mom and dad said at once, write about our trip to grandma’s place.

Felicia was pleased she’d have reams to write about, starting from the day they arrived, the food grandma cooked, the pets grandma had, grandma’s friends and a whole bunch of other things, she went to her study room and started writing, when she was done, she was so proud of herself, she could imagine her teacher saying, “Why Felicia this is a wonderful story, look at the pages there are so many, I’m proud of you?”

365 Writing Prompt: Earworm

Write whatever you normally write about, and weave in a book quote, or song, lyric that’s been sticking with you this week.

I normally think about poets and their poetry. This morning I was thinking about the little boy who was told by his father not to leave the deck  before he returns.

The poem was titled,”Casabianca” by Felicia Hemans.

I remember we had to memorize this poem and recite in front of our class. This was one of my favorite poems, I loved the rhyming and more so the story of the faithful son who did not leave the deck without his father’s permission. It is a sad poem but I admire the boy’s determination to stay and not leave even though the deck was burning.

The verse I liked the best is:

And shouted but once more aloud,

“My father must I stay Stay?”

While o’er him fast , through sail and shroud

The wreathing fires made way.

DP Daily Prompt: Can’t Stand Me

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

What do you find more unbearable, watching a video of yourself, or listening to a recording of your voice? Why?

Before I decide which one is undesirable my voice, or a video of myself? I will pick   my voice not the video, how did I figure it out, here is how?

When I was a student in London’s Institute Of Education, each one of us were given a piece of writing to read and record. We were instructed to go to the room where there was a recorder and a piece of writing , we were to go one at a time and read and record what was on that piece of paper, none of us saw it before, when my turn came I walked over to the room closed the door behind me and read the piece.

When we all had our turn, our Prof. Mr. Baird brought the recorder and played it for all of us to listen to our voice. When mine was finished, he said, “A fine piece of reading”, this made me think my voice is worth listening to.

As regards the video, my husband once took out his video camera and told us to walk while he took the video, there were a large number of us all family members, we had no idea how we should  walk, it ended up to be a disaster, none of us looked good, so video of myself was not what anyone will call nice.

DP Daily Prompt: Frame of Mind

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

If you could paint your current mood onto a canvass, what would that painting look like? What would it depict?

My current mood  what I’ll call is “Fuzzy”, on a canvass right now the painting will not please anyone’s eyes, if it was for sale,  the would be customers are more than likely going to  stay away and view other paintings.

My mood is all over the place, I turned on the computer, barely five minutes passed and there was a skeleton in front of me,informing me the internet connection has checked out.

What will I do I was thinking then it occurred to me my daughter’s instruction was to go upstairs in her room, disconnect the modem and count fifteen times the word “Mississippi”, I went up sat on her bed did as I was told.

Now I am in my room,I turned on the computer, right now it’s working, how long I can’t tell. Do I want to see that skeleton, you can bet I don’t, do I have a choice, obviously no?

I am writing and thinking am I lucky enough to get this done, it depends if the stars are aligned as they should?

The painting is not going to be worthy enough to be displayed in an exhibition, it will show a sad, unhappy, irritable person on the canvass, when these things are assimilated into one it’ll look absolutely hideous!
