Poetry,ghazals songs were my world, when I started studying Ghalib at age fifteen,I used to think he was the best Urdu poet.
He is indeed the best Urdu poet. Even Iqbal regarded him as a spiritual mentor.
Apparently, it was Ghalib who also led Iqbal to Rumi because Ghalib also claimed to be a disciple of Rumi and described himself as a mere vehicle through whom the voice of Rumi was coming down to us.
I was introduced to Mirza Ghalib, at an early age, I thought he was the best.
