365 Writing Prompts: A house divided
Pick a divisive issue currently in the news. Write a two-part post in which you take on two personas and approach the topic from both sides. Bonus points for a creative format( round table discussion, debate transcript, etc.).
I’d like to remind everyone who reads my post, I am really not giving my opinion either way. I am writing it as a prompt, and nothing else.
We all have difference of opinion in every divisive issue we read about, some of us are vocal, others not so much. At this moment I am thinking about, “Doctor assisted suicide”, this issue is talked about by healthy and those who are unwell, as a healthy individual I do not feel the pain of someone who is suffering day in and day out. When the final prognosis is given by the doctor the possibility of the condition of the patient will deteriorate in the coming days, when there is no hope, the patient finds it difficult to carry on with so much pain. He/ she might even think that his/her presence is also making his/her near and dear ones suffer.
When I take a positive stand in favor of the one suffering I’m inclined to believe that keeping the patient alive is not helping the person in front of me. It is sheer torture for the sick, the only way of relieving the patient is to agree with, “Doctor assisted suicide.”
This is the part of me who is unable to watch the patient suffering, I therefore see myself with the 45% of the people who think it’s morally acceptable.
Then there is the other part of me who agrees with the 48% of the people who consider it morally wrong. Suicide assisted or unassisted is morally wrong, we have no right to end someone’s life because we are not capable of giving life. Someone has to be very strong mentally to agree with Doctor assisted suicide.
Personally I do not agree with suicide at all!

Dear Ranu,
Thank you for this interesting post. This is an intriguing topic, and one for which no easy answer is available.
All good wishes,
robert
I know it is a divisive issue, and I don’t know the answer either, thank you Robert.
