DP Daily Prompt: Sounds Right
This is clearly subjective, but some words really sound like the thing they describe (personal favorites: Puffin; bulbous;fidgeting).Do you have an example of such a word that sounds the exact opposite of what it refers to? What do you think creates this effect?
I am having difficulty pin pointing a word that creates this effect, it means something but sounds the exact opposite, rather than take the whole afternoon thinking about it.
I want to write about a particular word, it sounds the same but the meaning changes when it’s spelled differently,i.e There their, they’re.
Most of the time there and their are used incorrectly. I used to have a tough time explaining to my nine year old pupils, why the sentences, e.g Carla went to there house. I want to go over their, are incorrect.

So true. And sometimes we are so used to using one form that we misuse it…
Happy weekend Ranu!!!
Thank you Leslie, happy week-end to you too.
Dear Ranu,
Thank you for this post. It reminds me of a young lady, many years ago, with whom I had a relationship. She was what is sometimes referred to as a “grammar nazi.” She would quickly correct anyone and everyone who made errors in speaking or writing.
She was always correct in her points. And she was never happy. Perhaps she is happy today. I don’t know.
All good wishes,
robert
This is very interesting, you don’t hear from her anymore?
Dear Ranu,
No, she moved on, as did I.
All good wishes,
robert
Thanks Robert.
