DP Daily Prompts: By Heart

You’re asked to recite a poem(or song lyrics) What’s the first one that comes to mind? Does it have a special meaning, or is there another reason it stayed, intact,in your mind?

The poem that immediately comes to my mind is one by : “A psalm of life by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow”

Here is the first verse:

Tell me not in mournful numbers.

Life is but an empty dream!—

For the soul is dead that slumbers.

And things are not what they seem.

It has a special meaning to me because I learned this when I was seven, my memory was really good, which is what I was told by the Nun my teacher.

I liked it also because it rhymed beautifully. Today when I think of it I like it even more because it is such a meaningful poem.

The next verse is even better:

Life is real, Life is earnest

And the grave is not its goal;

Dust thou art, to dust returnest,

Was not spoken of the soul.

It’s truly a wonderful poem, this one will always remain intact in my mind.

365 Writing Prompts: Intense

Describe the last time you were surprised by the intensity of a feeling you had about something or were surprised at how strongly you reacted to something you thought wouldn’t be such a big deal.

My feelings normally are not that intense I think, when I sense someone  deliberately trying to bother me,it makes me very angry.  In my life I’ve met people who were jealous of me they made it a point to do something to annoy me.

I had one classmate who always wanted to do better than me in school, when she was unsuccessful she’d make it a point to criticize the people I praised, unlucky for me I spent four years of my life dealing with her. The question may arise how did I deal with her. Do not be surprised if I tell you I did nothing.

There are people who intentionally irritate me I’ve made a point to ignore them, to me it’s the only way I can avoid  reacting strongly to these people who have nothing better to do.
