Tagore song: songshar jaubeysong by hemant posted and translated by ranu

When worldly concerns  win over my  mind

When the heart does not awaken

Even then ,Oh Lord I  will worship you

I  will sit and sing your song.

Supreme spirit forgive me for my

indifferent mind’s useless gift

My preparation to worship you

lacks flowers

There is no melody in my devotion.

When worldly concerns  win over my mind,

When the heart does not awaken,

I call your name with parched throat

I wish my utmost that my deep love

for you will bring tears

in my mind

once soon you will on your own

fill my mind with  sweetness

on this hope I bestow my

empty heart on your feet.

When worldly concerns

win over my mind

when the heart does not awaken

Even then I will  worship you

And will  sing your song!

DP Daily Prompts: Happy Happy Joy Joy

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

We cry for lots of reasons: sadness, pain, fear…. and happiness. When was the last time you shed tears of joy.

Pain I felt for the last few days, I never knew what can top it, I suppose happiness can.

Happiness is a commodity if I can call it that everyone strives to achieve, how many are successful I have no idea, I only see glum faces around me.

Sometimes I think why is it so difficult to be happy, maybe those words that I learned is true: “Man can be happy to some extent but cannot attain perfect happiness.”

When was the last time I can say I was happy Happy?

I received a letter from my prof. that I have passed the, “Master’s degree exam.”

I was away from home studying B.Ed. I was very very happy but sadly I was far away from home and could not tell my Mom and siblings immediately. I wrote a letter which they got after a month. I could send a telegram which they could receive sooner, but the receipt of a telegram frightens those who receive it so it was not really a good idea.

This morning I was more than happy to get mail from my brother!

Happy New Year Everyone(2015)! 🙂

365 Writing Prompts: A brand new you, effective tomorrow

Tomorrow is the first day of a brand new year. Tomorrow you get to become anyone in the world that you wish. Who are you? I you decide to stay “you” share your rationale.

I think I am happy with who I am, also my friends and relatives are quite contented with me, any kind of change would not be agreeable to them or me. After all I am doing just fine, why try to become someone I’m not.

To borrow my father’s words, “I do not want you to be upstarts, stay grounded, be proud of who you are and last but not least be proud to know your mother tongue, regardless of where you live.”

A new me will want new friends, new place to leave, new wardrobe, new vehicle, there’ll be so many unnecessary things I’ll have to accumulate and discard what I have already.

Above all I will have to have a new mind, it took me eons to develop this one.

I agree with Sir Edward Dyer(1543–1607):

My mind to me a kingdom is;

Such perfect joy therein I find

That it excels all other bliss

Which God or nature hath assign’d.

Though much I want that most would have,

Yet still my mind forbids to crave.

I press to bear no haughty sway,

I wish no more than may suffice,

I do no more than well I may,

Look, what I want my mind supplies.

Lo, thus I triumph like a king,

My mind content with anything.

My wealth is health and perfect ease,

And conscience clear my chief defence,

I never seek by bribes to please.

Nor by desert to to give offence.

Thus will I live, thus will I die,–

Would all did so as well as I!

Happy new year 2015 everyone, God bless us all!

365 Writing Prompts: I believe in Magic

You have been transformed into a mystical being who has the ability to do magic. Share your your new abilities in detail. How will you use your new skills?

I believe if one sincerely believes in God can in most circumstances help someone who needs it. I have tried to help my family by praying.

So far I must say I was successful, one of my family members applied for a scholarship, she wasn’t sure she’d get it. She asked me to pray. It took me ten days to complete the number of times I was supposed to repeat the prayer. She received the scholarship.

Another relative of ours lost his job, my husband and I and a few others joined  to say the prayer, we were able to complete the prayer in a short time. The relative got back his job.

I cannot claim I have mystical powers but I’m certain, if anyone has true faith can succeed. It should be done for a good cause.

365 Writing Prompts: Brainwave

What’s the last idea you’ve ever had? Regale us with every detail of the idea–the idea itself where it came to you,and the problem it solved?

I once thought why not I translate the lyrics of one of my favorite Tagore songs.

I sat down listened to the  song and felt only a poet like him can write lyrics like that. I heard the song many times never cared to think what it was about, sang with it, then suddenly something told me he is actually telling us how everything will be, when he is gone.

In the last verse he writes, “Who says I won’t join my friends in the playground, I’d participate in all the games.”

It seems he came   full circle, he was born lived life, then death took him and he was reborn.

The title of his song is,”Forever Me.”

DP Daily Prompts: All Grown Up

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

When was the first time you felt like a grown up (if ever) ?

Although I am not quite feeling like a grown up right now because of the excruciating back pain, when it finally relieves me I might be able to answer the question.

Having said that I remember my older sister did not waste any time telling me I was good for nothing I will not finish high school. I was fourteen, she was twenty-one, I looked right up at her and said, “you know what, you are boasting because you have a master’s degree and I do not, someday I’ll also get one too,I’ll show you I am smarter than You.”

She was speechless, and angry , she turned around and left, after this episode she did not repeat the words, “I was good for nothing.”

Do you readers think I was a grown up at age fourteen?

Tagore song: amar bhanga pauther posted and translated by Ranu

Whose  footprints are  imprinted

On my  dusty red  path.

The petals of her garland,

are scattered  on the path,

I know they   belong to her.

She came quietly

informed me after she left.

Alas! who else can

make me weep except her.

Whose footprints do I see

on my broken  dusty red path?

She came in early dawn,

That day, Spring  came down to earth

in her colorful attire.

The path was strewn with flowers

I waited inside  all day for some news

There was none.

Today I will go out

on the same  dusty red path,

with my torn life!

365 Writing Prompts: You’re a winner

You’ve just won $1 billion dollars in the local lottery. you do not have to pay tax on your winnings. How will you spend the money?

You are a winner, is an expression I cannot remember hearing when it comes to chance.

According to the prompt I won $1 billion dollars in the local lottery and the best part I won’t be taxed.

The question is how will I spend the money, lately I’ve watched some game shows and even cooking shows where the contestant talked about using the money they win to pay back their student loan. I feel horrible that these young people have so much debt to pay off.

While I may not be able to pay off the student loan of everyone, I certainly will pay off the loans of students in my area with my winnings.

I’ll donate some of it to educational institutions to help pay the cost of books and other things to under-privileged students in the developing world, we know how hard it it is for the school and the students to carry out programs which require a fair amount of money.

The money left I’d donate to hospitals in Canada.

DP Daily Prompts: Cliche

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

Cliches become cliches for a reason. Tell us about the last time a bird in the hand was worth two in the bush.

I use this expression quite often, we as humans are tempted to think if we wait, something better might show up, it’s not always the case.

My daughter and I were looking for an apartment in London ,my daughter went online, she saw a few and wrote the addresses and phone numbers so she could contact them.

She was able to get an appointment to see one at 10 am next morning. At 10 am we were there to see the apartment, it was a one room apartment, one could use it as a bedroom at night and living room during the day.

The rent was 210 GBP a week, I knew it was expensive, there were some advantages it was close to her place of work, there were little shops nearby where my daughter could get her groceries, it was in a good area and it was a secure place. My daughter wanted to see other apartments which were even closer to her place of work.

While we were talking to the landlord, I saw another couple waiting to see the apartment. It was the time of year when apartments in London were scarce and those that were available were grabbed by the would be tenants right away.

I told my daughter, “let’s not wait, let’s take this one.”

I felt if we let it go we may not get another one as close to her work as the one we viewed. I reminded her, “a bird in hand is better than two in the bush.”

We took the apartment, my daughter spent one year in that place and loved it.

DP Daily Prompts: Tight Corner

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

Have you ever managed to paint yourself into the proverbial corner because of your words? What did you do while waiting for them  “to dry”?

I’ve had those moments when I say something and never care to remember and am very quick to blame the other person, this is how I try to get out of tight corners.

Then my conscience kicks in and I apologize till the said person is sick of hearing it, but so far my fabulous friend did not complain, I’m sure it will happen one day, I probably will have no answer but to agree I am a terrible person!
