Words of Wisdom–Posted by Ranu

This morning we lost power, I was bored I spent some time reading”The time travelers wife”, I changed the book and took out ‘Atlas Shrugged’ I wasn’t feeling comfortable the house was getting cold. I took out my album and looked at some of our photographs, I quickly got tired of it too.

Then I got hold of a book where I found some words of wisdom, I knew this will keep my mind busy, I read some of them, found them interesting.  I copied them in my book and thought I’ll post them on my blog.

Here they are:

1.People with clenched fist cannot shake hands.  UNKNOWN

2. The scientific theory I like best is that Saturn’s rings are composed of of lost airline luggage. MARK RUSSELL

3. If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.  DEREK BOK

4. Poetry is a way of taking life by the throat.  ROBERT FROST

5. We treat this world of ours as if we had a spare in the trunk.  AL BERNSTEIN

6. It may be that those who do most, dream most.  STEPHEN LEACOCK

7. There is nothing on earth intended for innocent people so horrible as school. G.B. SHAW

8. The trouble with morning is that they come when you’re not awake.  REX STOUT

When was the last time you were ready to throw in the proverbial towel? Did you end up letting go, or decided to fight on anyway?

I had a very bad experience with ‘Sears’ the department store, three months ago I ordered a set of furniture from a picture the Sales lady showed me, it seemed quite attractive.

Three weeks later it was delivered to us, I was extremely disturbed to see it, it did not look anything like the one in the picture, I went to the store, to let them know I wanted to return it, the sales lady was off that day, the gentleman told me I had to go back on the day the lady was working.

Monday morning I went ,got the attention of the lady and told her I want to return the furniture because it was not the same one I ordered. She started talking about other sets on the floor, and would I be interested. I said I wanted my money refunded first then I’ll decide. I wasn’t sure if I told her I won’t buy it from them, what her reaction may be, she might refuse to take it back and I’d be stuck with a hideous looking furniture.

After contacting my credit card company several times I managed to get my money back, after two months.

This taught me a much needed lesson, I should not order anything by looking at a picture and the customer service in Sears is terrible, once you buy something from them, they trap you, they try to convince you their stuff is the best.I had to keep my cool until my money was refunded. I know now I must never buy anything from them.

I bought my furniture from a different store, they are the best, they never question or convince you to buy something if you are not interested!

DP Daily Prompt: Once Upon a Time

Tell us about something that happened to you in real life last week–but write it in the style of a fairy tale.

It was a very chilly and windy morning, I dressed up to go out to pay my bill,I thought I did not need to take my scarf, I made a wrong decision despite my warm Eddie Bauer long coat and a hood to go with it,I should have taken my scarf because the cold wind found a way to reach my neck.I stood waiting for the bus, which I thought would come in ten minutes , this was not my day, the bus took twenty minutes and I was cold, the bus finally arrived I managed to get to my destination.

I found the teller  free,  paid my bill. I knew I had to go to the mall to take care of some chores, I crossed the street to get the bus again, it was the same story I had to wait for the bus this time fifteen minutes, the wind was slightly calmer. When I reached the mall I went to get my chore done ,found the woman busy and  not in a hurry to serve me. I told myself “it’s all right, after this I’d go straight  in the comforts of my warm home.”

My home is not too far from the mall, there are four stops and then my stop, I do not remember ever being so eager to get home, the cold wind, snowbanks everywhere, was enough to encourage me to go home.
