DP Daily Prompt: The Transporter

Tell us about a sensation,a taste, a smell, a piece of music– that transports you back to childhood.

There is a song, the lyrics are written by Tagore, it is in Bengali, which is my mother tongue.Every time I hear it, I recall the day I heard it, how much I loved it and felt I could listen to this forever.

Here is the song, I copied it from Youtube:

In this song Tagore talks about his passing, he says everything will be the same, only his footsteps will be missing, the boats will be there buying and selling will go on like before, he reminds his readers  and fans to stop thinking about him and calling him.

There will be signs of his absence, such as  his musical instrument will be full of dust, his house will have thorny creepers growing around it. His garden will be covered with weeds and thick grass. Moss and lichen will surround the pond, reminding everyone that their favorite poet is no longer there.

Then he assures us he won’t be gone forever, he’d be back with a new name, will have new friends and will be back on the playground having a great time.

This song transports me back to my childhood.

365 Writing Prompts: Teachable moment

You have to learn a new skill.Do you prefer to read about it,watch someone else do it, hear someone describe it, or try it yourself?

To learn a new skill, it is important to know what the skill is about. Reading  will help me how easy or difficult it is, after reading it I’d like to watch someone do it, if I feel confident I will try to do it myself.

A new skill requires a lot of concentration, by reading it I hope to figure out if the said skill is easy or complicated. If reading alone doesn’t help, I’d watch someone do it. Then I might be brave enough to try it.

This learning of a skill brings back memories of my first day at the skating rink. It was a completely new experience.I didn’t read, watch or heard anyone describe it.

I saw the skating rink full of people young and old skating especially little kids were having a grand time. I told myself how hard can it be if these little ones can go round and round gliding ,laughing racing each other on the ice, I only want to learn to skate how hard can it be? Well my problem was I was scared I’d fall down. This fear in me was the reason I could not learn to skate.
