During the summer every year our city uses an empty building to have the “The Farmer’s Market.”

The local housewives cook food and bring it to sell in the market. Some farmers also bring fruits and vegetables to sell. It’s a very popular event for the citizens.

The land around the building was expensive but the building itself was very cheap, it needed a lot of renovation, the owner could not afford it, he put the building and land up for sale.

A man was interested to buy it he saw it as a potential to make money. Soon after he bought it, he announced he would not let it be used as  a temporary,”Farmer’s Market.”

I always loved to go during the summer to buy baked goods and other cooked food.

The citizens were protesting the move and were parading in front of the building  going with  signs  which said,  “WE Want The Farmer’s Market.”

The owner paid no heed, some of my friends insisted I should take a stand. I had no experience in this type of demonstration. I told them to excuse me for my voice is not loud enough.

The women would not give up, they  pointed out the fact, it was a place where friends gathered, sold their food, children looked forward to visiting the market.

Suddenly I was energized, I thought Mr. Richard should listen to our demands.

I wrote Mr. Richard you are a  wealthy man, money is not a problem for you. Why are you depriving us from the fun, we and our children have, buying and selling foods and Arts and Crafts ,during these two months. We will not leave the premises until you agree to let us use your building for our temporary Farmers Market.

Mr. Richard did not expect to see such determined people, he quietly said,’Okay I give up you can use my building as your temporary market.”

Do you love hot and spicy foods or do you avoid them for fear of what tomorrow might bring?

As a young child I loved hot and spicy foods. I’d eat it for a week or two then I’d get a vicious tummy ache and had to go to the physician. My mom always said Ranu, “do not eat so many green chillies with your food, you’d be sick.”

I never listened to her, but took a break when I had a stomach pain, I’d suffer for two to three days. At that time I promised not to eat hot foods, when I’d get better I’d forget my promise.

One day my friend and I were angry with the Principal so we planned to call in sick. At about 8 am I started having a pain in my stomach, it started to get worse, I had vomiting and upset stomach.

My friend did not know anything, early afternoon she came to celebrate, I was almost dying from pain, she got very scared and advised  to take me to  the physician,  the physician, gave me an injection and a few pills to take at intervals.

It’s an ongoing problem I eat hot chillies get sick stop for a While then eat it again ! 🙂
