365 Writing Prompts: Silver linings
Write about something you consider,”Ugly”– war, violence, failure, hatred—but try to find beauty, or a sense of hope, in your thoughts.
I consider war, “Ugly”, I write this because I think of all the lives that are lost. My thoughts are with the innocent children who are orphaned at a very young age, young wives who become widows.
The casualties of wars is heart wrenching, so many people are in a state of chaos. They lose their homes, part of their family. It is worse when the ones who survive the war lose their capacity to work.
I wonder where is the silver lining. Maybe if I think of it from a practical point of view, the war is waged when it endangers the safety of the people, for example Adolph Hitler’s plan to conquer the world. This war was necessary because it saved our world, and stopped Hitler from his evil designs.

It is difficult to think of a silver lining in such cases Ranu. But I have read of stories where people unexpectedly help each other even those who are supposedly on different sides. I suppose we see glimpses of humanity even in the most disturbing situations.
Sonya you are right, not everyone is bad, but the word war itself gives a negative picture. 🙂
Dear Ranu,
Thank you for this interesting post.
It is sad to have experiences like war, world hunger, and poverty. I think of things like what Sonya mentions. In those kinds of very difficult situations, the difficulty itself can bring about generous or heroic qualities in some people.
That’s what I look for, that is, the highest qualities in humans, when difficult situations arise. The qualities in those humans are what end up ending situations or, at least, allaying the pain or discomfort of those in the situations.
Thank goodness for goodness.
All good wishes,
robert
Yes you are right. We are thankful for those people who sacrifice their differences for the right cause.
