Writing – 101:Why do you write

Today, tell us why do you write?

Set a timer and free-write for 15 or 30 minutes without stopping. Begin your post with “I write because or start it any other way you wish.

I’ve never asked this question why do I write? Now that the question appears before me I wonder, why do I write?

Writing has opened doors for me that were in my mind closed. I’m able to write about my likes and dislikes. My childhood which was the best years of my life. Where we were a happy family, we were contented with everything we had. We did not ask anymore, satisfaction was the keyword in our lives .

Suddenly it all changed, we saw and understood, life was not all about happiness, we must make room or get used to dark unhappy days. Writing gives me the avenue to vent. I know and hope others will read about me and make sense of my personality, why I’ve Β become Β so quiet, why I take no interest in laughter and good times.

I’ve tasted all of that and thought I’ll always be happy, but it was taken away from n me on a bright sunny morning, when my Dad took his last breath. Before this incidence I thought happiness is forever.

The words of my,”Moral Science Book ” still haunts me, “man can be happy to some extent but cannot attain perfect happiness.”

Little did I realize nothing is permanent in this life, everything is temporary, it is this thought that scares me, I’m scared to be too happy, knowing that tomorrow I won’t be.

I write because I’m free to express myself. There are so many things I can write about, which I won’t be able to do when I am with my friends. They may not like when I talk only about myself.

I can write more, but now I think this is all for today.

I’m happy to be a part of the writing 101 participants. My best wishes to each and every one of you. Thank you for reading my thoughts about ,Why Do I Write?

  1. Dear Ranu,

There are many reasons people write. Regardless which reasons are yours, we are so glad that you do choose to write. It is enjoyable for us all :-).

    All good wishes,

    robert

  2. I remember receiving a letter from a dear friend who was responding to my letter to her. She said, “You don’t sound perfectly happy.” I wrote back, “I don’t expect to be perfectly happy.” Funny how exact words from moments in time return to me as if it happened yesterday. Something for me to think about…thanks for sharing…

  3. Life is gray in a patchy sort of way – you can never predict the color of the patch that would come next. I hope that it will be a dazzling bright white for you πŸ˜€ Welcome to the course.

  4. Very well expressed. The moral science book was right. The key is to not strive for perfect happiness. Thanks for sharing.

    Best wishes,

  5. Sometimes it is hard to be heard in a group. Writing gives us a voice and a chance to express ourselves, not on the spur of the moment as we need to do in a social group, but after we have given our topic some thought.

  6. It is really hard to lose someone you love, it may affect your whole being if it happens unexpectedly. Still, even though nothing is permanent, as your “Moral Science Book” said, “you can’t attain perfect happiness” is true but sadness is also temporary. I look forward to this journey with you. Keep the faith!

  7. Thought provoking. What does happiness even mean? To me it is a state of feeling good, satisfied, delightful, glad and so much. We can be happy about simple things and as well the serious sides of life. Simple things such as a fresh morning air, the blue sky,a nice music that we just love and so on. And the serious part of life: family, work, friends, setting goals and achieving them etc. There can be something to be happy about everyday in terms of enjoying the everyday simple blessings even in the face of life’s challenges. Things don’t always have to work out but i enjoy my happy moments and soak it all in. This reminds me in my grey moments that my life is not all about unhappiness! Enjoy your happy moments and Hope for better and new things to be happy about.
