I lost my voice because of laryngitis

I’m asked is it worse than dermatitis

I could  only tell

If I knew both well

I think I’d go ahead and ask Midas!

Daily Prompts: CONCEAL

Our feline Raphael loves to play the game of, ‘Hide and Seek,’  he has a green , narrow object shaped like a pencil, he can play for a long time if we agree to play with him. He likes it because he is able to carry it in his mouth. When we stop playing, he lifts the corner of the dining room rug and goes in deeper to hide it so his feline brother wouldn’t find it.

When he runs off with it to conceal his favorite toy, he is unaware his brother is watching him hide it. Some days Gabriel would lift the rug to find the hidden toy, but he’s very good tempered, when his brother comes near to take it, he gives it to him.

Whenever we want Raphael to leave us alone, We say,”Rafa where’s the green thing?”

He’d run and look for it, some days when  he cannot find it,  Rafa comes back to us and let’s out a loud, ‘MEOW.’

Raphael and Gabriel

One day I could not find a very important card, I was on edge, I could not talk to anyone, I was frightened beyond words. For three days I prayed and asked God to help me find it.

A card that can fit on your palm can give so much anxiety, on the third day I started looking, I saw the case of a videotape without the tape, what was amazing my picture was in it, I looked and thought no I don’t think it’s here, my inner voice told me to look any way. I opened the case took out my photo and to my surprise saw the card. Why would I put it in such a place was my question, I couldn’t think of an answer, except my prayer worked.

The word FRIVOLOUS reminds me of people who are always thinking of fame without working for it. We know nothing comes easy, one needs to put in the effort to succeed.

It reminds me of a tale I read when I was in primary school. I think it was about a milkmaid and her pail, she was daydreaming how she would churn butter with the milk, sell it to the market and would buy eggs, which would hatch into chickens, her yard would be full, she’d sell them and with the money buy a new dress, she’d wear the dress which would make her look  so pretty, all the young men would ask her hand in marriage, she’d decline them all, then she nodded her head and the pail went flying and the milk spilled all over on the ground, with it her dream.

It was silly of her, but we humans do daydream therefore the moral of the story, “Do not count your chickens before they are hatched.” It  should teach us about our foolish dreams!

Daily Prompts: FEARLESS

Write a new post in response to the one-word prompt, “FEARLESS”

I’m not sure I can use fearless as one of my traits. I cower when I see lightning followed by thunder. I cannot breathe when it is pitch dark at night.

I’m afraid to write as I fear it will not be received well.

I’m fearless when I cook and bake, because I only attempt them when I know what I’m doing.

I’m afraid to tell lies because I think of the consequences on  judgement day.

I sometimes wonder is there anyone who is fearless?

Book Review: Atonement by IAN McEWAN

Book Review: Atonement

Atonement_(novel).jpg (260×399)

Characters: Briony- youngest daughter

Cecilia- the eldest daughter

Leon – the son

Mr. and Mrs. Tallis – the parents of the above characters

Robbie: main character and boyfriend of Cecilia

Genres: social novel, fiction, psychological, suspense, mystery.

This is the story of a family of five, two sisters, a brother and mom and dad. they are : Cecilia Tallis- eldest daughter, Briony Tallis -youngest daughter, and Leon Tallis the one and only son.

Briony the youngest loved writing stories, she also wrote a play. She wanted to stage the play, but was unable,as the characters she chose did not cooperate. I found her too bossy and at times I thought she should act her age and not try to interfere in the lives of her older siblings.

As far as credibility goes, I found Cecilia all right, Leon the brother did his own thing, the one character I thought was not worthy was Briony.

Among the main characters, Briony caused trouble in the family as a result they were split up. She also lied against Robbie and was responsible for sending him to prison.

I liked Robbie one of the main characters, he was helpful to the Tallis family. He was also grateful to Mr. Tallis who gave him financial help to continue  his education.

I like Cecilia too, but I did not like Briony at all, she was the reason the family broke up.

I liked the part where Briony admits her guilt and visits her sister Cecilia to tell her she was sorry for sending Robbie to prison by lying about him. This shows she has a conscience.

I couldn’t understand why the author decided to change it in the last chapter. Where he says through Briony that the book is not entirely truthful about Cecilia and Robbie that they were not reunited but died separately during the war.

I would recommend the book to the readers, I personally feel  there is a lot to learn from it.

Daily Prompts : HELP

pod-2016-sm.png (308×60)

Write a new post in response to the one-word prompt.

Help is something we do not seem to do enough of. We carry on our lives and ignore what’s going on around us. There are so many people around the globe who could use  some kind of help, be it clothes, some money for food, education, anything, to make their lives a little comfortable.

There are people helping as much as they can. I loved the idea when Rashmi from Mind and Life matters, decided to donate some money on behalf of the contestant who gets first place in the limerick challenge, to the local food bank. It’s going over well.

Daily Prompts: NERVE

I’m not always confident of myself. I tried to learn skating, I fell more times than I like to count. One of the kids in school asked me, “Miss why don’t you skate?”

My reply, “because I was down more than I was up.”

He liked my response, he thought, ‘ I can skate, she can’t, hurrah for  me!’

Then I went to learn swimming, I failed again, I was afraid I’d drown.

Now I’m sticking to the reading challenge. I read 14 books since January 4th.  Now I can carry a sign which says, “Hey I read 14 books in less than three months.”

I get the point from now onward I must not tread in dangerous waters, right?
