Day Fifteen: Take a cue From Your Reader
“Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and cure my loneliness.”___ Maya Angelou
*Tell us about a time when a piece of music moved you. Do you have an all-time favourite song?
Yes I do have an-all time favourite song, the lyrics was written by Rabindranath Tagore.
It was significant to me because it has a very soft melody and sung by my favourite singer, Hemant Kumar one of the best singers in Bengal. Hemant had a magical voice anything he sang was so good I’d listen to the song a number of times.
Coming back to my all-time favourite song here it is with translation by me, Ranu:
The title is: “Chiro Aami” “Forever Me”( The lyrics and music by Rabindranath Tagore)
When my footsteps are no longer visible on this place,
I will not row my boat,
my buying and selling will be completed,
My dues will be paid,
my coming and going will cease at this market.
You need not remember me,
or look up at the stars and call me.
My musical instrument will be covered with dust,
there will be thorny creepers growing around my house.
The garden will resemble as an unkempt place,
thick grass will be seen covering my garden.
Moss and lichen will surround the pond__
you need not remember me then or call me.
After my passing everything will look the same,
the flute will sound the same as now.
The days will go on as usual,
you will see the boats crowding the wharves like now.
Shepherds will bring their cattle to graze,
they will play in the field,
while they wait for the cattle to complete eating their food.
But who can say I will not be there that day.
I will be back as a new person,
I will have new friends and I will have a new identity.
I will come and go forever as usual,
only you won’t know me.
Try not to remember me or look up at the stars and call me.
