The Daily Post : Clouds
In response to daily post’s prompt: Clouds
June 27th England had a shocking loss to Iceland in Soccer. It was a match they never should have lost. while the Brits were smarting from the pain, along came Marcus Willis British tennis player ranked 772 in the world. While his ranking didn’t seem much to applaud, his entry to Wimbledon tennis tournament gave the Brits hope of achieving something great which their soccer team was unable to do.
After six rounds of qualifying he entered the main draw. His first round opponent was a guy named Berankis, whose ranking is 54 in the world, one would think Marcus had no chance, not only he did, he beat the player in straight sets.
Marcus was in cloud nine, he managed to get into the second round, his opponent this time was Roger Federer, the third ranked player, who had won this championship seven times. I watched the crowd on centre court, they liked their player’s chances, they supported him with all their might, to erase the memory of England’s loss to Iceland in Soccer.
In the first set, Marcus failed to win a game, he did better in the second and third set, but it was not enough to win the match. With all the support he got on centre court from the British crowd gave him a lot of hope. Unfortunately the Cinderella story ended sooner than the Brits had hoped.
