Childhood memories of rain is fresh in my mind

How we jumped with joy for nature was so kind

In the sweltering heat

Our body loved  to greet

The  showers which cooled our body and mind!

…………………………

Mom was busy in the kitchen cooking khichree

And we were jumping with joy and saying,”Mom hurry

We are hungry we can’t wait

Let us bring our favorite plate

And fill it up with your delicious  khichree!”

……………………………

After dinner we had stories to tell

How sister Sally slipped and fell

Oh what a terrible  sight

Thank God she was  alright

It was one story Sally hated to tell!

……………………………………… 🙂

  1. It reads to me as a family narrative set to rhyme. I can imagine this read around the group. The rhythm is attractively infectious. Great poem-storytelling!

    • Yes you are right, and thank you for your comment.
When we were very young, we used to get so tired of the heat,
we’d pray for rain, and I recall mom telling me not to go out,
we’ll be wet, but that’s what we wanted to do, get wet. On rainy days Mom would
cook Khichri, it was a mixture of Lentils and rice and my mom’s magical
cooking. She served it with either beef or Chicken curry, it was delicious.
