Daily Prompt :Fierce

In response to daily post’s one-word prompt : Fierce

I was always afraid when my mom was angry with me. Sometimes I wasn’t sure what I did wrong.

One day my younger brother was fooling around in the kitchen, he wanted to hide from my other brother, he hid under the kitchen table, when the brother found him, without thinking he tried to stand up while still under the table, he knocked down the table and all the dishes on it, my mom was angry with me, but said nothing to him. I thought it was unfair but was too scared to tell mom anything.

Once I saw my aunt slapping all three of her kids, when I asked what happened , she mentioned two of them were arguing, so she slapped all three of them. I disagreed, I told her, ‘the third one didn’t do anything, why did you slap him?’

Her reasoning was weird, she said, “If I don’t slap him he’d make fun of the other two.”

I told her she was wrong.

My post on lemon and lime pickle

Lemon and Lime Pickle

A few weeks ago, I went to Costco to buy some groceries. While walking along the aisles, I saw bags of fresh limes and lemons, what’s more important was they were so cheap. I thought of the supermarket where one lemon is a dollar and not so fresh. As soon as this thought entered my head I picked up a bag of lemon and a bag of lime.

When I came home I looked at the bags I was guilty, I bought these bags of lemon and lime and couldn’t figure out how I’d use them. Two whole days went by and my fridge was full of lemon and lime, I didn’t even use one, immediately I thought of the quote; “Penny wise pound foolish.”

I always used this quote to make fun of my husband. I gave it some thought and wondered was it possible to pickle them, I didn’t have a recipe. I turned on my computer and typed, “Epicurious. com, lime and lemon pickle recipe.” Within seconds there were a whole bunch of recipes, I had most of the spices and other ingredients, I just needed some mason jars. I bought them from Walmart.

Next day I took out the limes,  followed the recipe, sterilized the jars, and poured the quartered limes that I mixed with the spices and other ingredients, I put the lid on and put them on my kitchen windowsill, hoping we’d have enough sunlight to infuse them, a week later, I tasted them, I didn’t like the taste, so I used more spices and all the other ingredients and mixed them, then   put them back on the windowsill. I left them there for another week. It tastes amazing now, I can’t believe I’d be so pleased with the finished product.

I applied the same technique with the lemons, now I have three jars of delicious pickle. I’m so glad I didn’t let the bags of lime and lemon to rot.

Below is a photo I took of my pickle. I wish I could share with my blogger friends.

Daily Post Prompt : Vice

In response to daily post’s one-word prompt : Vice

Brainy Quote on Vice

It’s obviously a lot harder to try and be a good guy than it is to be a bad guy. The world is  fundamentally an evil place, it seems like. So in order to be a good person, you have to fight temptation and Vice. ___ Michael Shannon

Daily Post Prompt : Expert

In response to daily post’s one-word prompt : Expert

The following is a song by Rabindranath Tagore, it is translated in three languages,Hindi, English and Bengali. Since Tagore was a Bengali, the original lyrics was written in his native tongue Bengali.

In this song Tagore has described the ever-flowing wave of life in the universe which is controlled by the Almighty. This is why he is called ,”The Maestro,” the supreme creator of life, joy, sorrow, light and music.

I couldn’t think of anything or anyone who can surpass the Almighty. I don’t know who has translated the original, in  Hindi, and English, I don’t know who the singers are either. But I’ve posted this for my readers, who I hope will enjoy it.

Daily Post : Cheat

In-response to daily post’s one-word prompt : Cheat

Each of us have been put on earth with the ability to do something well. We cheat ourselves and the world if we don’t use that ability as best as we can.____ George Allen, Sr.

I wanted to use a quote to know how much ability we have and how best we are using it. Though I can use examples of a variety of humans, whose whole life is based on cheating.

But my inner self tells me to look at myself first, can I say I’m not guilty of cheating, of course I cannot claim I haven’t. When I was teaching, I tried to tell my kids one must not cheat, it’s a bad habit. When I decided to quit teaching, I told my kids, ‘this  is my last year. I will retire after this year.’

Word got around in the whole school, I was quitting. One little girl who was in Grade Two, asked,  “Are you retiring Miss?”

I said, “Yes.”

“Please stay for two more years, I’ll be in Grade 4, I want you to be my teacher.”

From that day, each morning when I was on outdoor duty, she’d give me a big hug, “you will stay, won’t you?”

It became increasingly difficult for me to tell her I cannot stay. She didn’t forget to give me a hug, she felt somehow I’d change my mind. I didn’t, I had a sick husband who needed my attention.

When I look back I think about the little girl who so desperately wanted to have me as her teacher. I could not comply, in a way I cheated her.

Daily Post Prompt : Mistake

In response to daily post’s one-word prompt : Mistake

To err is human, to forgive Divine___ Alexander Pope

I have the quote of Alexander Pope, before me, yet I’m not convinced, all mistakes can be forgiven. If my mistake happens to be a misplaced letter in a word, I can erase it and thank myself I edited it on time, hence all is well.

How would anyone forgive a driver of a vehicle, whose blood alcohol level is higher than normal and who knowingly drove his vehicle and killed someone. That someone could be someones daughter, husband, or mother. How can anyone forgive this. I think this error is unforgivable.

There are many types of mistakes that can be forgiven, because they are trivial and there is no lasting effect on the human who receives it.

Daily Post Prompt : Witness

A few years ago I went to an “Eddie Bauer Store,” in Acron, Ohio, to return a cardigan I had bought in their chain store in Chicago, Illinois. I did not open the bag, as my daughter did not like it.

On the same day another customer brought back a jacket to return at the same store. The salesman asked me if I agreed that the jacket had been worn by the customer multiple times. I knew he needed a witness who’d agree that the said garment was not returnable. I thought in this case the salesman should find out the company policy and not ask a random person to be a witness to do his job.

I like Eddie Bauer clothing, their price is very high comparatively, but they do make clothes that lasts a long time. Their return policy is too lenient, they must have a time frame when their product can be returned.

Daily Post Phttps://wordpress.com/stats/sabethville.wordpress.comrompt: Obvious

In response to daily post’s prompt : Obvious

So far I’ve enjoyed the daily post’s prompts. I’m not sure about the prompt Obvious,I know what it means, there are several synonyms for the word, somehow it hasn’t helped me. It’s Obvious I have a mental block.

While thinking of mental block, I’ve realized now that I have a permanent mental block about, how to use,”pingback,’ my good blogger friend tried to explain how it’s done. I also asked one of the bloggers who uses pingback  frequently. He hasn’t replied.

Can the wordpress team explain how to create pingbacks? I will be much obliged if someone comes to my rescue. Thanks.
