In response to daily post’s one-word prompt : Trust
This morning when I read daily post’s prompt, ‘TRUST,’ I instantly thought of the four lines of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s poem, The Psalm Of Life.
These are the four lines :
Trust no Future, howe’er pleasant!
Let the dead Past bury its dead!
Act,_ act in the living present!
Heart within, and God O’erhead!
I’m guilty of that myself, I recall the past every chance I get. I haven’t yet buried it. According to the poet present should be more important than past and future.
I feel when the past was our present we failed to acknowledge and enjoy it. Now that it’s done with we think how sweet it was. I agree with the poet that we must enjoy the present, do whatever we can and not let the time wasted by thinking back of the Past or looking forward to the Future.
If we can stick to the present and make our life meaningful, who cares what the Future will bring. To me it’s better not to Trust the Future, it may not be as good as we think.
