Daily Prompt: Banned

In response to daily post’s one word prompt : Banned

Cecilia was excited she saw an ad in the magazine about a fantastic cookbook, it will forever fix her problem of cooking delicious meals to entertain her friends and family.

She was ready to go to the bookstore to buy the book. On her way she had a few obstacles on the roads, the road close to the store was closed for repairs, she had to use the detour. She kept telling herself to calm down, she’d get the book without any problem, after all how many people would go this early to buy a cookbook.

When she reached the bookstore she saw a large sign on the entrance, “Cookbook Banned!”

‘What!’ She said, ‘it can’t be.’

Someone in the store heard her and asked, ‘Can I help you madam?’

‘Yes!’ she said, ‘Why is this cookbook banned, I came to buy it, what’s wrong?’

The store clerk said, ‘I’m sorry Miss, there seems to be a problem with it!’

Daily Prompt : Transformation

In response to daily post’s prompt : Transformation

She disliked her hair, not knowing what to do she went to the hairdresser and asked her to shorten it. Next thing she needed to change was the way she dressed, ‘These baggy clothes look horrible,’ she yelled.

Next morning she went to the most expensive store in the city, bought the finest fitting clothes. She came home wore her new clothes, something was missing, she looked in the mirror and said, ‘I still look plain, maybe I need to go to a beauty salon.’

She called the salon and was lucky to get an appointment  immediately.

The lady she met at the salon was the best in the city. She  advised her client  to be seated while she gathered her tools to make her customer as pretty as possible.

It took almost an hour for the make-up artist to transform the face of her client. When it was done everyone in the salon wanted to take a photo of the pretty customer.

They asked in unison, ‘What’s your name?’

She replied, ‘It’s Sophie.’

‘Sophie?’ they said, ‘you are beautiful.’

Sophie could not wait to go home and look in the mirror, when she reached home, she brushed her hair put on her lovely outfit, she stood in front of the mirror and yelled, ” Sophie my dear your transformation is complete. You are no longer plain, congratulations.”

And from then on  she lived happily ever after!

Daily Post : Tiny

All about our tiny feline Sophie

She is tiny, she is bright, she’s never out of sight. When she came she was  mal-nourished and cute. She was afraid of the felines, Gabriel and Raphael. Somehow she was able to win over Raphael and was having a good time playing with him.

It seemed she was not satisfied playing with only Raphael, she had to make Gabriel like her too. She has finally achieved success in winning him over too.

Now she’s as happy as she can be. When it comes time for eating she is able to push both the felines, she starts eating their food, while the two who are more than double her size leave and start whining. I thought perhaps her experience as a stray has made her so daring. She doesn’t hiss or growl, yet she is able to get around without any trouble.

In the beginning she stayed close to me, after two weeks she no longer needed me, except when she is hungry. She looks up at me as if saying, “I’m hungry, I want food.”

Daily Post : Artificial

In response to daily post’s one word prompt : Artificial

These days most of the things sold in stores are not authentic but artificial. Some of the products though artificial looks impressive. I once looked at a bag in a flyer, I was tempted to buy it but the tag said, faux leather. I decided not to buy it. I was unimpressed why couldn’t they say artificial instead of faux, some people might be tricked by it, they might think it’s a special kind of leather.

Even in certain types of food the term faux is used, between wearing and eating there’s a huge difference. For a very long time we were tricked into believing that Margarine is better than Butter. We the consumers believed them, now the truth is out Margarine is worse than Butter.

My first encounter with Margarine was in London in my brother’s house. I thought it was butter, I told my sister-in-law, ‘the butter here has a very bad taste.’

I overheard her telling my brother, ‘the secret is out, your sister knows it’s not real Butter.’

Actually I didn’t know, I thought something is wrong with the butter sold in England, it doesn’t taste good.’

What I find scary is  very few things sold in the market are genuine, most are fake, from tables to clothing items to food, substitutes rule our world.

No wonder, in our city a woman was selling fresh vegetables, my attention went to some green chillies, I picked one up and was only  trying to see if it was fake or genuine. She immediately blurted out, ‘that will be a dollar, I grew it in my hot house.’ I put it back and came home.

Daily Post : Volunteer

In response to daily post’s prompt : Volunteer

I volunteered to bring my sister, my brother,my husband’s nephew, and my husband’s cousin’s two kids, and also sponsored my cousin who was refused immigration by the department of immigration. None of these people appreciated our effort, not only that, they don’t even keep in touch.

But when I donated some money to ‘Red Cross,’ for the people of Fort McMurray. The Red Cross thanked me many times. Does this mean relatives are not thankful, and it’s better to help non-relatives?

Giving my time to volunteer in various organizations is a good thought, but I could never do it. I worked from 8:30 am to 4 pm  week days. Week-ends I baked and cooked and froze the food for the week. I found it difficult. If I say I volunteered at home would it make sense?

Daily Post : Millions

In response to daily post’s prompt : Millions

I used to think a million dollars is an unbelievable amount of money. The focus is now on billionaires, I wonder how these people were able to accumulate so much money. Does it mean millionaires are not considered that rich anymore?

Bill Gates it seems is about to become a trillionaire. It’s difficult to imagine how large a figure a trillion is, one with twelve zeroes. Even if the person with that kind of money, spent a million dollars a day, it’d take him/ her 2739 years to burn through a trillion dollars.

The owner of a trillion dollars would have enough money to give out $140 to everyone on the planet or even buy Central London at today’s market prices,it’s a report by, ‘The Times.’

Isn’t it a shame that so much wealth belongs to only a few. A trillionaire can easily help the homeless and erase poverty in the world.
