Daily Prompt :Martyr

In response to daily post’s prompt : Martyr

They say Martyrs go straight to heaven,

I ask, ‘pray tell me what is their qualification?’

‘Anyone who is abused

Without  proper excuse

Are sure candidates to enter the gates of heaven!’

…………………………… 🙂

  1. Dear Ranu,

Your post brings to mind the actions of terroristic people where they die for their alleged faith.

I say that it’s a more fitting path to *live* for what inspires us!

    All good wishes,

    • Dear Robert,
Those who terrorize and kill innocent people and die while carrying out their belief,in my mind they
must not be counted as Martyrs who will see heaven. Leave those people alone because faith does not tell them to
do so, they do it because they think they are right. Let me emphasize they are not Right. There are many people
who are used and abused, they can be considered as Martyrs.

    • No Robert,
The term terrorist sends a negative message why would I write a poem about them. My poem is about those unfortunate women who were gang -raped and murdered. They are the ones who are martyrs in my mind.Thank you for your comment.

      • Hi Ranu,

I believe what Robert was trying to say was that there are evil people who misuse the word martyr and brainwash others. They call it an honour to die when we are meant to revere all life.

      • Dear Sonya,
Thank you for your comment. I always disliked Politics, which is why I
did not study Political Science instead chose Economics. I know there are people who use religion
to justify what they do. I’ve never liked them and it hurts to think somehow my post was encouraging
terrorists. I consider that medical student in Delhi a martyr, she was going home after finishing the
day in school, she was on the bus, when she got off the bus a group of men caught her, gang raped her, and murdered her.
Sonya you are a kind person and I appreciate your thoughts.

  2. Thanks for sharing this, and the discussion in the comments is also very interesting. Yes, the first thought that came to my mind after reading the post was also that those who suffer for no fault of their own can also be called martyrs 🙂

    • Dear Sonya,
Thank you so much for your comment, I’m glad you didn’t think I was somehow favoring the terrorists.
We always forget the innocent women who are raped and murdered, to me they are true martyrs.
