Daily Prompt : Witty

In response to one-word prompt : Witty

I’ll tell you a story of a cook,

He’s the smartest man in my book.

He out-witted his master one day,

Cranes have one leg he did say.

The furious master took him to the park,

There they saw Cranes with one leg in the dark.

The master went close and yelled Shoo,

The cranes put the other leg down and flew.

Now the master said, ‘Explain dear cook’,

The witty cook replied,  ‘Did you say Shoo when you took,

The crane from the store?’

The stunned master swore,

He never heard an argument like this before!

Daily Prompt : Launch

In response to one-word prompt :  Launch

Before the launch of an election,

The parties who are in contention.

Promise the world to the naïve voters,

If elected they’d smooth all our problems.

We believe each word they say,

Off to the  booths we go to vote that  day.

We trust them because  they seem honest,

Days later we realize in disgust.

They broke all the promises they made,

We make an oath to see them fade.

But Politics is a weird game,

Those who believe are now ashamed !

Daily Prompt : Coincidence

In response to prompt : Coincidence

I went to Lahore Pakistan to study B.Ed.. It was a great experience for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it. When our college for a week for holidays, I went to Rawalpindi to spend the week with friends whom we knew for a long time.

One day some of the family members took me to the shopping centre, while we were walking around we accidentally met two princesses from Hamza in Swat state near Peshawar.  They were very friendly, we talked for sometime. One of my friends was shy and was too embarrassed to talk to them, I told her I’d introduce her, so she could become the friend of the princesses.

Later my friend told me they visited each other’s house.  I thought what a sweet coincidence, now my friend can talk about her experience with the princesses.

In response to prompt : Focused

Thich Nhat Hanh:  The Miracle Of Mindfulness

In his book, the above author talks about, ‘The Practice Of Meditation,’ he talks about washing dishes, going for a walk, eating an orange, one must focus on these things one at a time.

In this method he emphasizes the need for focus, he says when washing dishes, one must only think of the dishes and nothing else.

Once he told his friend, when eating you should only think of the specific food like if you are eating an orange, you must concentrate on it.

Once he went for a walk with a friend, the author kept quiet while the friend was talking about a  lot of things. When they came back the friend asked why he did not respond, his reply, ‘We were walking therefore we must pay  attention to the task at hand.

I remember my Mom used to tell me, ‘Ranu, do not talk when you’re eating, it’s like reading the Quran, you must never talk while eating.

This to me is how one must focus, it’s not easy to actually do it, but with time and practise it becomes second nature. I haven’t succeeded yet, but I know I can do it!

Daily Prompt : Planet

In response to prompt : Planet

God created our Planet, our world and this earth,

Not just for humans but all the other living things.

If we don’t  take care, it’ll be a sad day for us all,

Plants, trees, birds and animals are doing their part,

Unfortunately as humans we are not interested at heart.

Let us unite together regardless of our faith or color,

So we can live on this universe without hurting each other!

DAily Prompt : Pamper

In response to daily prompt :   Pamper

It’s wrong to spoil a child,

It only makes him/her wild.

When they’re young they know not why ,

They need discipline to ride on high.

Unfortunately it’s the name of the game,

If you want to succeed in this age of fame.

So parents beware do not Pamper your child,

If you do not like  them to grow up wild!

Daily Prompt : Irrelevant

In response to daily prompt : Irrelevant

When we had our school meeting,

D and L  loved discussing,

Irrelevant subjects which made no sense,

This was how they   contributed their two cents,

Worth of utter rubbish.

While the rest of us were keen to call it a day,

They were warming up to have their say.

I’m so glad I do not have to face them,

I no longer have this pointless  problem!

Daily Prompt : Leaf

In response to prompt : Leaf

Among the leafy vegetables, spinach is my favorite. It’s very easy to cook. You just wash it to make sure, there is no sand left.

You take four cloves of garlic, mince or slice them, heat a pan, put a tablespoon of oil, when the oil is hot put the garlic cloves for a few minutes, do not burn it, next you put the spinach leaves, add a dash of salt, stir till the leaves wilt and the water dries out. I serve it with rice. It is delicious.

Daily Prompt : Crumb

In response to prompt : Crumb

Our felines, Gabriel, Raphael, and Sophie are so picky, it’s difficult to get food that they may like. One day my daughter bought some cans of food recommended by the cashier in the store.

I wasn’t sure the felines will eat the food. I thought I should wait a while before feeding them. At lunch time I opened a can and split the food between the three.

After giving the food I waited in my room for a few minutes, when I came out I could not believe what I saw, not a crumb, particle,  or grain, was left in their bowls, they  were squeaky clean.

WOW! I thought they really like this food.
