I want to write a short story,

Each time I attempt it sounds gory.

I asked my friend, ‘what can I do?’

She replied, ‘get rid of the fluff .’

I asked, ‘what kind of fluff should I omit?’

She said,  ‘unnecessary words you must omit!’

Daily Prompt : Gratitude

In response to prompt : Gratitude

I extend my deepest gratitude to God for helping me in my studies.

I’m thankful to Him for my parents who loved me and raised me.

I’m grateful to my teachers in the early grades who helped me in school.

Although I had a few friends I appreciate their loyalty towards me.

I’m thankful for their kindness, support and friendship.

I will never forget the kindness of the  bus driver, who helped me, get the

right bus to go to the mall in London, Ontario, where I was a stranger.

I thank the many awesome people I met when I started teaching in a new school.

Finally I thank all the children I taught in Gander, they supported me and

showed their appreciation by giving gifts and their love!

I prefer to live in a smaller city,

Where people are friendly and witty.

The air is fresh for us to breathe,

Sun’s heat  makes  large city seethe.

I like a city where people are happy,

Where kids can spend time with Pappy!

DailyPrompt: Surreal

In response to prompt   : Surreal

I’ll tell you something that is surreal,

My getting sick without notice is unreal.

When I opened my eyes  early this morning,

My nose started running without any warning.

I sat on my bed with a box of tissue,

I rubbed so hard my nose got a bruise.

It’s a bizarre story what happened to me,

Instantly I knew Vick’s VapoRub is the cure you see!

In response to daily prompt :  Identity

I went to the post office for my parcel,

The girl said it is bound  with a tassel.

She also wanted to see my identity cards,

I showed one of my Home sense cards.

‘This is not the right one I need to see,

Show me the one for which you pay a fee.’

‘Oh I see you want to see my driver’s licence,

Now I know you’re making a lot of sense!’

Daily Prompt : Trademark

I sometimes wonder  if it’s a good idea to go for brand name only, as consumers. I remember for years we bought parkas made by ‘Eddie Bauer,’ they were good I admit. But over the years the company was sold to someone else,  but they used  the ‘Eddie Bauer,’ logo.  The reason was they wanted to use the name to sell it at the same price, they were making money, but the quality of their clothes were not as good.

We the consumers thought we’re buying the best brand and paying a high price. When we compared with the parkas we bought before, the comparison was astounding. The new ones were of inferior quality than the old ones.

We had no idea the company had changed owners, the current owners did not live up to the name of Eddie Bauer. When we realized it we stopped buying, ‘Eddie Bauer,’   Parkas.

Perhaps as consumers we need to see the product we are buying, if it satisfies us, we spend our money, regardless of the Trademark!

Enlighten me why some people have no feeling,

Is it because they hardly know the meaning?

Our awesome world has gone out of whack,

Can we not do something to have it back?

The type of world when streets were safe,

Now even with a companion it is unsafe!

Two kids in my classroom started a  fight,

Each punched the other with all their might.

The rest of the kids clapped and hollered,

One girl yelled, ‘stop I really am bothered.’

The fight continued , I said, ‘kids stop it !’

Amid this commotion, no one cared a bit.

Completely out of sorts I said, ‘stop this  Cacophony,’

Amid  pin drop silence, a voice cried, ‘I lost my money!’

Daily Prompt : Expect

In response to daily prompt : Expect

It’s October, the wind reminds us it’s the beginning of Autumn, therefore no more can we expect, warm sunny days, but cold and high winds are in our future. In a way it’s understandable, Nature has a job to do, such as preparing us for Winter, the first thing is to get rid of the leaves of trees, the high wind takes care of this job.

Home owners will get ready with their rakes to clear the ground, slowly the grass will turn yellow and our job of mowing  will take a break.

We cannot sit still and say, ‘I’m glad I don’t have to take care of my lawn.’

We have to look forward to snow and lots of it, shoveling the snow off our driveway, front and back steps will replace mowing and raking.

Some Winters I hope, believe and imagine , it will give us a break from snow, but as the days go by, we realize, we cannot change anything by imagining!
