Daily Prompt : Mushroom

In response to prompt : Mushroom

Frogs Umbrella

When we were little kids we had a  lot of wild mushrooms growing in our yard. We called them, ‘Frogs Umbrella,’ I know it’s a strange name for mushrooms. Our mom told us not to touch them for they’re poisonous she said.

One of my brothers’ wanted to experiment what will happen, if he ate one. My other siblings dared him to do so. I was not one of them, I was away in college.

I came home to spend my holidays with mom and my siblings. When I entered the house I noticed my brother with a  mouth so swollen, it resembled a balloon.

I asked mom, ‘what’s wrong?’

‘It’s your crazy brother, he tried to eat the mushroom, even though I told him not to. It troubled me to see him with a swollen mouth, it was so bad he could not talk.

It took days to cure his condition.

When I saw mushrooms for sale in the supermarket, it reminded me of my brother. I was always afraid and could not understand why people in North America like it so much.

I needed a lot of courage to cook and eat it. but the fear remains in my heart about, mushroom!’

The Bengali actor made a droll comment,

Rice was in short supply he loved to torment.

He said, ‘once upon a time we were rice eaters,

But our government exported it to cheaters.

Depriving us and making money is their aim,

Now we can only see the image, what a shame.’

While some thought it is a funny joke,

It didn’t satisfy the suffering folk!

In response to one – word prompt : Honk

Some of the car drivers driving make me uneasy,

I wish I can honk them when they drive crazy.

Some drive like they’re the only ones on the road,

Changing lanes in and out is their mode.

If you blow your horn they give you a nasty look,

Making you feel you’re the one with a wrong outlook!

Daily Prompt: Neophyte

In response to one word prompt : Neophyte

As a Neophyte the infant’s world is rather small,

His mother, his nurse, his busy father that’s all.

In his early days he embraces   his precious Mom,

She feeds him, changes him and keeps him calm.

The days turn to months and then to years,

His world gets larger and with it the fears.

Who are these people he wonders out loud,

Why  is there such a strange crowd.

‘It’s your birthday,’ someone shouts,

‘I know mom and dad, what’s birthday,’ he pouts.

The crowd brings him presents and sings,

‘Happy birthday to our king of kings.’

‘I want to sleep, he tells his mother,

Tell them to go away, he yells, father !’

Daily Prompt : Gingerly

In response to one-word prompt : Gingerly

Gingerly I was walking to school that day,

Not knowing who I would meet will say.

How long have you been in this snowy town?

I looked up  and saw a woman with a frown.

Cautiously I replied with a hesitant smile,

‘My dear believe it or not it’s been a while,

But I cannot get used to the icy roads of winter,

Each day I count how long will this weather,

Give me grief, I’m sorry for complaining,

This is truly something I wasn’t expecting.’

She gave me a sarcastic look and moved on,

I watchfully took small steps to my destination!
