In response to prompt : Conjure
How I recreated a basket of food
I hear the doorbell, I open the door, in comes a group of my friends, with a basket of uncooked food.
What am I going to do with this, I ask?
‘Think of something, conjure up something, we are hungry, we need to eat.’ These words came out of their mouths in unison.
I tried to complain, but they were adamant, I have to cook all this, whether I like it or not.
I opened the basket, to my absolute horror, staring at my face was: potatoes, carrots, celery, and a fair size piece of blade roast.
I was a bit relieved knowing I can use all of this to make a one dish meal. I picked up the piece of meat, used some flour to cover it, took out my pot roast pot, heated it on top of the stove and browned all the sides, then I put some dehydrated onion soup mix, added some water and let it boil. In the meantime one of my friends peeled and sliced the vegetables, which I added in the pot.
It was time to preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Within a few minutes the oven was ready, I put the pot roast pot with all the ingredients into the oven and put the timer for one hour.
The aroma of the roast was making all of us so hungry it was hard to wait. One of my big-mouthed friends yelled out, how much longer, must we wait?
Instantly I recalled the image of my mom’s face, telling me: ‘ I’m scared the oven is not, it’ll take its time . So stay quiet or go for a walk.’
This is exactly what I told them!
