One night I had a strange dream. I was unable to figure out why I had this dream. I became restless and decided my mom will know the reason.
I looked for her, she was busy with her daily cooking. ‘I said, ‘Ma stop your cooking ; I want you to interpret my dream right now.’
She looked at me and replied, ‘listen Ranu, whatever it is, has to wait. I cannot ruin what I’m doing. You must know if the food is not cooked on time, your siblings would want to eat me. I do not want to take a chance.’
I was bothered by this and thought, perhaps I must ask the scientists to invent a pill. It would certainly help me, mom wouldn’t be a slave of the kitchen and I can relate all my dreams to her. Mom would be at liberty to interpret my dreams.
After completing her kitchen duty. She yelled out, ‘Ranu what did you dream?’
I said, ‘you took so long I forgot.’
‘Good,’ mom said, ‘you must not relate your dreams to anyone.’
‘Why? ‘ I said.
She said, ‘if someone interprets your dream and tells you be careful you’ll be in trouble. It will happen. Always one should interpret any dream as it’s very good.’
That holy dream___that holy dream,
While all the world were chiding,
Hath cheered me as a lovely beam,
A lonely spirit guiding.______ Edgar Alan Poe

Thank you for this most interesting post about dreams!
I have heard – as you reflect here – that it’s very important how, if at all, one shares one’s dreams.
All good wishes,
You are right. My mom had the same view. Thank you for your comment. 🙂
