Writing 101, Day 10: Farewell

Assignment: Write a poem of a farewell today.

Farewell to Everyone

………………………

It’s painful to see the loved ones go

To an unimaginable place I don’t know

I wish they’d visit me in my dream

It too is impossible it seems.

…………………….

When I went to bid goodbye to Goodenough House

The secretary received me with a gorgeous smile

She said, I still remember, “It’s au revoir , Miss Sabeth,

Not Goodbye, I hope to see you sometime soon.”

……………………………….

I went to London many times

I didn’t have the heart to say, Goodbye,

Let it be :Au Revoir till the end of time

This is what I quietly said in my mind.

………………………….

Once again I’m here to bid farewell

To my blogger friends

Who were kind enough

To leave their comment.

………………………..

Many thanks to all of you

For reading my attempt

To write poetry

Even though you were pressed for time.

…………………………..

Before I dot my i’s and cross my t’s

It wouldn’t be fair if I failed to

Mention my dear friend Robert

Who through thick and thin

Supported me.

………………….

He thinks I’m a poet how sweet is he

He counted me in the poets circle

Is it not a real miracle!

writing 101,Day, 9 : Camouflage by Jacqueline Oby-Ikocha

Assignment: For today’s poem, take inspiration from ‘Camouflage’__ you may apply it in any way you like, whether you write about visual or social dissimulation, or focus in the way we hide our myriad emotions, actions, and reactions. What would be your ultimate smokescreen, concealment, or mask?

Flower_flounder_in_Kona_may_2010.jpg (3057×2088)

The peacock flounder,is a flowery fish

They are outwardly colored

with spots that are bluish!

………………………………

Their ability to change color

in mere seconds

helps them to hunt

and hide from predators!

…………………………

These flowery flounders

can move in any direction

One eye can look forward

and the other  can look  backward!

…………………………….

Camouflage is the name of the game

Comparatively humans put us to shame

Our human predator’s face is so fake

We are unable to recognize them

Even if our life is at stake!

………………………

Many innocent lives are lost

We don’t seem to have the instinct

like that of the flowery flounder

Who is always ready to react

whatever may be  the cost!

……………………………………………….

Freedom or Death says the writing on the wall

For to live without freedom is a curse for mankind

God created His humans to rise and not to fall

This is what History tells us we need not be blind!

………………………….

We were  united together to have freedom of speech

Slowly we realized it was out of our reach

We’ve been taught we should fight for our right

It seemed impossible and out of our sight!

……………………………….

Who will take stock of the lives we lost

How long will this last and at what cost

It was impossible to calculate the numbers

No one could do it because of the unaccountable murders!

……………………………………..

Will humanity still say we did it all wrong

Pray, guide us and tell us what would you do

If your people were told they did not belong

Would you sit back and let them harm you!

……………………………….

Countless people perished in this war

Who gained by this awful situation

My mind asks this question

There is no one around who knows the answer!

…………………………………….

The silent wall portrays to all who standby

Freedom is necessary to survive,

Without it we may as well die!

……………………………………….. 😦

Writing 101,Day 7: Beloved

Today’s assignment: Beloved

I have translated the following song which helps to understand, how one feels when one is separated from his/her beloved.

I think of my beloved a lot,

In the dark days of my sorrow,

I light up and extinguish my

Love’s lamp, hoping to feel better tomorrow.

It does not work

For every step I hear,

Awakens the memory of my dear,

The roads cannot help but laugh

That my heart still beats for my beloved.

Often I am misled into thinking

He is coming towards me smiling

But it is only my imagination.

My memory of him has not faded ,

There is a burning in my heart

The tears  flow without stopping,

Who knows what others think.

That I have not forgotten him

But my cries suddenly turn into laughter,

When I see him smiling in my thoughts.

The separation from him

Feels  as if there is no life in me

The lamp  continues to burn

There is no brightness.

I try  very hard,

But I am unable to appease my heart,

I  play various  tunes and  sing a variety of  songs,

It is  not enough  to console my heart!

I felt I could not write a better poem than this song. Pardon me for taking this route, I feel I have made some contribution by translating a song which is in a language other than my own.

Thank you all. 🙂

Writing 101, Day 6: Fallacy

Assignment: Today, let’s write poems that are wholly illogical.

Let’s see how miserably we can get reason to fail; both our reason and the reason that guides our readers.

Try not to consider this prompt as a call to nonsense but rather a call to use your good(creative)sense to arrive at firmly misconstrued ends. Surprise yourself.

Prompt: Fallacy

I’ve never surprised myself yet,

Today must be the day I bet.

When I read the word Fallacy,

Immediately I  thought of logic and philosophy.

Poets and philosophers are not the kind,

To enter so readily in my unoccupied mind.

What will I write if I haven’t a clue,

Time is fast approaching when this is due.

This is the true story of a stranger,

Who posed as a religious holy man.

My mother was impressed by his behavior,

She immediately became his fan .

He wanted  rice and sweets on that  day,

My mother sent the servant  shopping,

While his sermon  started  without delay,

And  my naive  mother was busy  cooking.

The food was ready he sat at the table,

Ate as much as he was  able.

He mentioned he needed some cash,

To get something for my mother in a dash.

In the meantime he declared in that corner,

There is a whole lot of  treasure for her.

With these words he left our house that day,

Promising to come back yet another May.

Did we see him ? Unfortunately not,

My mom deserved what she got.

God gave us brain to use it not lose it,

Can we ever learn from our mistakes ?

I sincerely doubt it!

Writing 101, Day, Five: Freedom

“Uncensored writing coming from the heart often produces the most amazing read.”__ Bebong

“Man was born free, and he is everywhere in chains.”__Jean Jacques Rousseau

“Free people remember this maxim: We may require liberty, but it is never recovered if it is once lost.”___ Jean Jacques Rousseau

” You forget that the fruits belong to all and the land belongs to none.” ___    Jean Jacques Rousseau

The above three quotes has a definite purpose in my mind.

………………………………..

What Freedom Means To Me:

I’m assured, “uncensored writing,

Often produces amazing reading.”

Does it mean I have Freedom to speak my mind ?

…………………………………

Do only the wealthy ,

Have freedom to look down upon,

The poor and unfortunate people?

…………………………..

Is the color or gender of a human,

The decision making tool for success and,

Failure?

…………………………

Will a human be discriminated,

Because he speaks a different language,

And belongs to a developing country?

…………………………………

Most humans believe in the

Creator of the Universe,

Whether he calls Him Allah or God or

Bhagwaan,will it matter?

……………………………

The French Philosopher said,

“Man is born free ,

and he is in chains everywhere.”

…………………………………….

These  words, does not mean freedom?

Jean- Jacques says, fruits belong to all,

But the land belongs to none,

Yet battles are fought to possess land.

……………………………………

If we thought for a moment what

The above quotes  mean,

We will no longer feel we own anything.

Will we  still  fight wars and kill people?

…………………………………………

Education is not the privilege of a few,

All of humanity deserves to be educated.

To gain the most basic knowledge,

Why some of us are white and most are not.

………………………………………

It gives  us the most essential wisdom,

Why are we different,

Who is the culprit?

…………………………….

It’s the ‘Climate’,

Can we  wage a war against ‘Nature?’

No we cannot, because nature protects us.

………………………………

To be able to survive ,

Humans must believe in Liberty ,

Equality and Freedom.

………………………….

Liberty is, ‘Free will,’

Equality is,’Equal, rights and opportunities,’

Freedom means, ‘Personal or civic liberty.’

…………………………………

The most important is my conclusion:

God announced to the Angels,

“I am going to have a ‘Vicegerent,’

On Earth , Adam is his name,’

The Angels protested,

God said, “You do not  know, what I know!”

God served His purpose by creating us.

He has faith in us, which is why He,

Paid no heed what the angels had to say.

Can we not join together,

And let the Angels Pray?

…………………………………….:)

Writing 101, Day, four: Seconds

“Life moves very fast , It rushes from Heaven to Hell in a matter of seconds.”  ___ Paulo Coelho

Stopwatch.gif (375×326)

Image from Wikipedia.

The seconds in the clock is flashing by,

My life’s work is not complete I sigh.

Who will help me I wonder?

The moving hand makes me ponder!

……………………………………………

Get your work done as soon as you can,

My mind tells me, “I am your fan,

Your life’s clock is turned but once,

When will it stop? in seconds or in  this instance?”

………………………………………..

None of us know when the life’s clock will stop,

It is better we complete our work till we drop.

It’s a pessimistic way of looking at things,

Can’t we pause for the seconds  hand to ring?

…………………………………………..

Our  nature really is very strange,

We  don’t care  if we act a bit  deranged.

Until the seconds clock strikes at our door,

Announcing, “it’s your  turn  now , you  have  no time anymore!”

…………………………………………….

My  thoughts   go back to childhood days,

“Was I good , I wonder,” no, my mind proclaims?

“It’s too late now,” the seconds hand warns,

“For the Angel of death is here,” it mourns  !

………………………………..:(

Writing 101, Day 1: Magic

Today’s Prompt : Magic

…………………………….

My life is built on magic,

I solemnly agree,

I cannot apply any logic ,

To make you believe me.

……………………………………

Once I had to make an important   decision,

To  study or not in a  scary destination.

The walls of the  building appeared to be howling,

It’s your last chance someone yelled growling.

…………………………………………………………………….

Perhaps my life’s magic bid me goodbye,

I was down in the dumps I kid you not.

Suddenly things   changed with the news I got,

An  ad for  scholarships I will not lie.

…………………………………………………….

B.Ed. scholarships were offered

On the classified page.

Can this be fate’s last endeavour?

Or is it some  magic performed by a sage!

…………………………… 🙂

Writing 101, Day 3 : Sleep

Today’s Prompt: Sleep

Sleep and memory go hand in hand,

One without the other cannot be grand.

Our body and mind both need rest,

It’s important  for an impending test.

…………………………………………

As long as I sleep without distraction,

My memory is intact,without subtraction.

But there are nights I’m deprived of it,

When nature reminds me about that  gossip.

………………………………………

I toss and  turn and take  few deep breaths,

Hoping to forget about the innocent deaths.

I continue to struggle to go back to sleep,

The sound of the alarm makes me weep.

……………………………….

………………………………………:)

Writing 101, Day two: Reflection

Reflections

At age eight I made a decision,

To watch the solar eclipse without protection,

I did not know I must watch the reflection in the water,

After hours of watching I discovered in horror,

I was unable to see anything in front of me,

The thought I could not see taught me a valuable lesson.

I grew up and made the same blunder,

I turned down a job after a moment’s reflection,

The image in  the mirror,

Revealed my misconception,

I must think before I ink was the conclusion.

After moments of introspection,

It became clear,

The need for help was buzzing in my ear,

I badly needed another opinion,

To do what is right was the only consideration.
