365 Writing Prompts: Keeping up with the Jones’

As far as my memory goes I had no intention of wanting something my friend or acquaintance had, simply because I never felt I had to have things the same or better than anyone else.

I was perfectly happy to have what I could afford and I I never failed to appreciate what the so called Jones’ had if it was beautiful.

I remember my husband once asked me, “Ranu don’t you want a house like the one our friends have?”

I told him I did not, my reason was it was too large and I wouldn’t be able to take care of it.

I have no idea what my husband thought, my feeling is why should I go for something that our friends have, if it is not practical?

I am of the opinion not every one is keen to keep up with the Jones!’

DP Daily Prompt: Envelope Pushers

When was the last time you took a risk(big or small), and pushed your own boundaries– socially,professionally, or otherwise? Were you satisfied with the outcome? A few years ago my daughter and I were invited to a get-together party in a friend’s house. There were a lot of people there, food was served I was waiting my turn to get some food, my daughter was ahead of me, when she was about to get the food, one of our old acquaintance stopped her and asked  some unexpected questions. I knew nothing about it until we were ready to get into the car, my daughter told me about it and made up her mind never to attend these parties. I was angry, this person always looks for an opportunity to embarrass us. When we got home I dialed his number, he was not at home, I left a message to call me next morning, when my call wasn’t returned by 9 am, I called again, I was firm I told him he must never harass me or my daughter in the presence of strangers. I reminded him if there was anything he wanted to know , he should ask me directly. He tried to make excuses for his behavior but I did not let him. The same person has been doing this kind of irritating thing since we met him, I attempted to stop him, my husband would not let me. This time I felt he had crossed the limit I must prevent him from being a jerk. DP Daily Prompts: Doppleganger Alert

You step into an acquaintance’s house for the first time, and discover that everything– from the future, to the books, to the art on the wall- is identical to your home.What happens next?

Katie,”do you live here?” I said.

“Yes, why do you ask, Melanie, is something wrong?”

There is something strange about your home, I replied.

Really, would you care to explain? answered Katie.

I left my house in the morning to run some errands, I ran into you, you invited me to visit your house, I accepted although I have a lot of work to do in the house. When I entered your house I thought I was in my house, but your house is in a different part of the city, why am I thinking I am in my house. Wait a minute I get it, everything in your house is the same as in mine, it’s so strange.

Melanie you’re not making sense, what do you mean by, “everything’s the same as in my house?”

Yes Katie, my books, the art on the wall, are the same as mine, it cannot be a coincidence can it?

Both looked at each other and made up their mind to check it out, Melanie took Katie to her house, they were barely at the front door,there was a strange sound coming from inside the house. Melanie knew her husband had gone to work early and was not expected to be back yet.

Who is in her house she was alarmed, she unlocked the door and found a note, “tread softly dear ladies the ghoul is resting, I’d advise you to leave or face the consequences.”

Melanie was perturbed, was her husband back and decided to scare her, no she thought, they did not discuss anything about “Halloween” who could it be, while Melanie was deep in thought, Katie who was spooked out, left without telling Melanie anything.

Standing alone with the note, Melanie tip toed towards the kitchen, there was a nasty smell, she walked on there was someone large and scary  cooking something, she could only see the back of this creature, when it turned around, Melanie fainted and fell on the floor.

The ghoul was her husband playing a joke on her, when she opened her eyes she saw her husband bending over her and was saying,”I’m so sorry,Melanie, I didn’t know you’re such a coward.”

Where are my books and art on the wall,please tell me she said?

I’ll explain everything her husband said!

365 Writing Prompts: Blank is the new blank

I know the title of my post is strange, this is what I got when I filled in the blanks from one of my posts.

There was a lot of discussion about the newly constructed market in Churchill square. It was huge, you could buy anything you wanted in this place, children went in droves with their parents to see this magical place, there were posters everywhere announcing the opening of this,”Big New Market.”

Katie, a forlorn spinster, suddenly made up her mind to see this incredible market. No one was able to make her interested in anything, for her to come out and visit this place made plenty of heads turn. Susan her childhood friend also came out to  visit the market, she was curious to see it because if this market caught the attention of her lonely friend it must be terrific.

On her way she met Hazel who was also going to this place, she dressed up as a waitress and rushed to get there on time. Susan asked Hazel, “where are you going dressed up like a waitress?”

“I’m going to the market, I’ve got a job of a waitress in the new,”Smiley’s restaurant.”

Susan walked on to reach the market before her friend Katie leaves it. Luckily she found Katie talking to some stranger, who she introduced as her long lost cousin residing in Scotland.

Katie was pleased to see her friend Susan, who was amazed to see the side of Katie she had never seen before. Three of them decided to go to the restaurant where Hazel an acquaintance of Susan was working.

The menu provided surprised them there were all sorts of exotic dishes, they could choose from, Katie was not too adventurous she settled for steak, but Susan and Katie’s cousin ordered the  famous Indian “Butter chicken.”

They enjoyed their meal and happily left promising to meet soon!
