Five sentence fiction: Changes

Lillie McFerrin Writes

A unique person 🙂

I’ve met countless people in my life, never had the pleasure of meeting someone like Alice, one moment she’d laugh like a lunatic, you turn around and find her crying, I never quite know what to think of her.

One day she showed interest in Mike, poor Mike is simple there is nothing complicated in his life, he prefers to have things as they are, I knew Mike  since he was a toddler, I didn’t think Alice was his type, when she asked me about him I just said, “Mike is just Mike there are no frills in his thought or action.”

Alice insisted I introduce them,I tried to get out of it but she was relentless, reluctantly I introduced them, they liked each other, they were out for coffee, movies , I saw them everywhere, I wondered how was this possible, Alice was with Mike for the seventh day, I was happy one of them liked to alter, s/h life.

It was Monday morning I noticed Mike was alone, I was curious I asked him about Alice, Mike’s face was red he murmured something then he looked at me ready to pounce, “It’s your fault” he said, you shouldn’t have introduced me to that eccentric.”

I gave him a look of dismay, he ignored my look and said, “Did you know she is crazy?’

Write a post in which two protagonists of two different books meet for the first time. How do the react to each other? Do they get along?

My protagonists are : Alice from, “Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland”, the second one is Saroo ,from, ” A Long Way From Home.”

This is  their first encounter, they have never heard of each other, I introduced them as Alice from, Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland and Saroo from ,”A long Way from Home.” Here fiction and non-fiction make a go at each other.

Alice is a little girl with blonde hair reaching to her shoulders while Saroo is a little boy with short black hair, under weight and poor. At five Saroo looked after his little sister, while Alice was a beautifully dressed, healthy and curious girl. Saroo’s curiosity was limited to his family members Alice was in an advantageous position, she was fortunate enough to go wherever she pleased.

Let us see how they react when they are introduced:

“Alice meet Saroo,” I said.

“Saroo,” Alice makes a face.:(

“Yes Alice I said, Saroo is from India, so his name is different from yours.”

Sensing that her reaction to the name was not well-received, Alice smiled, went a step closer to shake hands with Saroo, little Saroo who  hadn’t seen a white girl before, moved back a few steps.

I was given the task of introducing them it wasn’t working out, I realized they do not know each other’s language, so I explained to Saroo first in his language which is Hindi, then did the same with Alice in English.

They seemed to understand so I let them introduce each other.

Alice was not shy she laughed and said, “Hi, I am Alice”, she extended her hand and both shook hands.

Saroo hesitantly said in Hindi, “namaste, mera naam Saroo hai, barhi khushi hui aap se mil ker.”( my name is Saroo, I am happy to meet you).

I was glad the introduction went well.

Alice took Saroo to a “Mad Tea Party”, Saroo was shy and unable to understand the conversation between Alice and the Mad Hatter, but although five he was smart enough to show a beaming face.

Alice tried to impress Saroo by talking to the three at the party, poor Saroo could not comprehend why this white girl is talking to these strange animals, he could not express himself because there was a language barrier.

At the end of the day Alice was pleased to meet her new friend, who was so sweet and docile. She promised to meet him again and teach him her language,so they could interact with each other!

DP Daily Prompts: Fictional Intruder

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

Go down the rabbit hole with Alice; play quidditch with Harry Potter; float down the river with Huck Finn…. if you could choose three fictional events or adventures to experience yourself, what would they be?

I’d choose ; Go down the rabbit hole with Alice, going to Wonka’s  chocolate factory with Charlie and the other four kids; Gulliver and the Lilliputians.

I liked Alice’s adventures, I thought she’d be the right person to follow, she does such cool things, no sooner I thought about her, I found myself following her to the rabbit hole, down, down, down, I went.  Where was I, I could not see it was dark inside, I was in a well it kept sliding down, I looked sideways and saw the place laden with cupboards and book shelves. I found myself in a place I did not like, I gave up the idea of going any further Alice was not very happy to see me she wanted to get rid of me. I uttered some magic words and immediately I was in a different place.

Mr. Willy Wonka was not happy to see me, “He said I do not like uninvited guests.” I didn’t care I followed the group anyway.

I was with Charlie moving around, tasting Wonka’s delicious chocolates, listening to Wonka’s funny jokes. Violet is irritating me, she is so spoiled, Mike is another one who needs to be disciplined. I think I’m bored here, I’d have to leave.

I hope I’ll have a good time with Gulliver and the Lilliputians, but Gulliver thought I have no business being in the island of Lilliput, I promised I’d help him if he needed me. He agreed and I was delighted.

Well here I’m   in the island of Lilliput with Gulliver on one of his visits. The size of the Lilliputians is six inches only, really, Gulliver is way taller than me , Gulliver is a giant and I can be considered one too ,seeing the inhabitants are only six inches tall so are the buildings, trees and horses. Their Emperor is weird he selects people based on their skills with rope dancing rather than their intellectual abilities. They plot against one another, Gulliver and I are their primary targets.

The Emperor thinks our size is enormous, it makes us expensive to have and also dangerous for the Emperor to keep. We helped them in their wars with Blefuscu, that’s forgotten now we have to run away from here, we cannot let them take our eyes out. We had fun but it’s wise for us to leave the country.

SPEAKEASY #141 A magical Journey

Gavin and his sister Beryl were the two survivors of a car crash. It killed both their parents. They sat in front of their house mourning their loss.

A man in Khaki suit came with some papers for them to look at. Gavin who was older asked,  ‘what are these?’

The man replied, ‘these papers are from the court. It is a notice to expel you from this house.’

Gavin was speechless for a few minutes, he stood up and said, ‘why do they want us to leave this house.we have nowhere else to go?’

Sorry the man said, ‘I am doing my duty.’

Thus began the terrible journey of their life. They were homeless, starving and cold. They looked around to find some kind of shelter but there was none. They were tired and hungry. They sat in front of a house to rest. The housekeeper kicked them out. They got up and continued to walk.

Beryl asked her brother, ‘Gavin if we pray to God, do you think He will help us?’

Beryl’s words brought tears in her brother’s eyes, he said, ‘I don’t know  Beryl , do you think we are good kids?’

Beryl started to cry, ‘I wish we were, now God won’t help us either!’

A passerby heard this conversation he stopped and said, ‘children are always good it’s the adults who are not.’

”Then why are we homeless and hungry’, Beryl cried.

‘You’ll be okay, I promise you little girl, now I must run along I have things to do.’

The two continued their walk. Things were the same. They got no help . The weather got worse.  High winds were blowing and snow started falling again. It seemed even nature was cruel, there was no break insight.

Their walk took them to a strange place. There were a lot of people singing and dancing.  Gavin and Beryl stopped. They were curious. ‘These people are happy’  Beryl said, ‘let’s find out why, then we can be happy too.’

Gavin spotted the passerby in the group. They went closer to the group to be certain. Sure enough it was him. He was singing, the people were dancing.

All of a sudden the scene changed.  The weather changed, the sun came out and it was warm.  The group was  not dancing any more they had baskets of food for everyone there. Gavin and Beryl joined in and for the first time in a week, they had something to eat. After the meal,  Gavin and his sister were alone. All the people disappeared.

‘Gavin do you think it was some kind of magic?’

‘I have no idea, but it sure feels it was, Beryl.’

They started their walk again this time they met a gypsy.  She was not friendly. They asked her if there was a place they could rest. She ignored them and disappeared.

‘Are we in a land of magic Gavin?’

‘Why do you ask?’  He said.

‘People we met disappeared,it can only happen in a magical land I think.’

Their journey took them in front of a hill. They climbed up, they couldn’t believe  what was down the hill.

Gavin said, ‘it looks like a fairy land, I want to explore it.’

‘Okay’ Beryl was happy.

Down the hill they went. They met Alice, she was arguing with March Hare. At the next stop was Willy Wonka showing his Chocolate factory to the golden ticket holders. Then Gulliver and the Lilliputians were eating and drinking.

‘I love this place’,Beryl said.

‘Who’s there. ‘ a mean woman shouted.

‘It’s us’ Gavin replied.

‘Get out of my property’ she said.

‘Did I hear someone trying to get rid of my friends? Big bellied Santa came out of  North Pole and screamed. He was joined by Alice and her group,Wonka and the five kids and of course Gulliver and his Lilliputians.

‘Today is a day to celebrate Christmas and New Year, this day no one will go hungry and homeless.’  Santa said.

‘Now let us join together to sing a song of Christmas and New Year.’

Santa was the leader and he said, ‘one two three  we wish you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year!’

The mean woman stood in silence.   There was nothing left for her to do but walk away.

This is my story for SPEAKEASY #141

Merry Christmas And happy New Year to everyone.
