Daily Prompt: In a Crisis

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

Honestly evaluate the way you respond to crisis situations. Are you happy with the way you react?

Whenever there is a crisis situation in the family I try to find the best possible way of dealing with it. I’ve had these situations more than I care to count, each one was different and the solution of course had to be according to the seriousness of the situation.

My husband was not very calm, he’d get extremely anxious, which was not always good for him, considering he was a heart patient.

Once one of my daughters was crossing the street in the evening, a motorist hit her, he claimed he did not see her, her left shoulder was hurt. As soon as my husband heard it he immediately had angina pain. I explained to him he must stay home, I’ll take the daughter to emergency. He stayed back, we went to the emergency waited for hours before anyone came out.

Sometimes I feel the word ‘EMERGENCY’ is a farce, you go to the hospital no one seems to take you seriously, they take their time, they are happy to let the patients wait, because they have a sign up which says, “minimum time  to wait is at least six hours”.

Does a messy home(or office) make you anxious and cranky, or is cleaning something you just do before company comes over?

I like a neat and clean home all the time. I do clean daily and this is what I like normally. Lately it is changed considerably. We have two cats who love exploring, this makes everything out of order. They also shed a lot,it’s difficult to clean up every time there is a mess.

I look the other way, I do not enjoy cleaning every few seconds. I therefore leave everything to be cleaned at the end of the day.

If I’m expecting company I do not let the cats come into the living room after I clean up.

365 Writing Prompts: What a Twist

Tell us a story fiction non fiction– with a twist we can’t see coming.

An old man knocked on the door of two innocent women,”let me in he said, I can tell what lies in the future for you both.”

They were mother and her daughter, the mother a pious woman always prayed and wished well for her children.

Hearing this the mother was delighted, she invited him to have supper with them. The man gleefully accepted the invitation.

Mother prepared the most scrumptious food for him. The man while eating praised her cooking skill, the woman was overjoyed and was hesitant to ask him about their future.

Meanwhile after supper he invited himself to spend the night in their house, he promised both mother and daughter he’d tell them in detail about their future.

He slept well and kept thanking his hosts how much he enjoyed the food and  rest at night.

He then asked for some time to put his thoughts together before he could give them the good news about their future. Morning turned into afternoon the man was still thinking over. The mother was tired and anxious, but had to wait, she knew she could not disturb the man.

Early evening there was a knock on the door, the daughter opened the door there were two policemen standing outside inquiring about some stranger who was taking advantage of innocent people, she froze when she heard this, could this be the man they’ve invited in their house.

The policemen asked permission to come in, the old man was still buried in his thoughts, suddenly he heard someone saying, “Alex what are you doing here, you’re supposed to look for the crook?”

Alex was stunned, he didn’t expect to be caught by his colleagues!

Tagore Song: na bujhe kare tumi bhashale ankhi jaule ,poste and translated by Ranu

Unknowingly,

whose tears did you shed?

My dear who is staring

at the deserted  street

With a painful heart

and lifelong unhappiness.

Whose eye language

did you not read

and were unable to grasp

the compassionate hope.

You failed to turn around

To see whose anxious

desire you crushed!

Writing Prompt: Seconds

I always loved spicy food. Once our whole family were invited to dinner to my parents friend’s house.  The lady whom we addressed as auntie was a very good cook. I was excited, I knew she makes everything tasty, we were looking forward to this dinner. When we got there our aunt told us her daughter-in-law cooked the meal. I was somewhat disappointed to know she was not the cook. Anyhow I was anxious to find out if she was as good as her mother-in-law or better.

Dinner was served, the main item was  “Seekh Kebab”( seekh is an Urdu word which means, skewer). The aroma of these kebabs were out of this world. Talk about spicy the lady was not skimpy as far as the spices were concerned. She was very generous with the most important spice ,cayenne powder.

Seekh Kebab is a dish where spices are important, too much or too little ruins the taste. Our hostess was a seasoned Chef , the kebab’s were so tasty, I still remember the taste after such a long time. They were served with Parathas( flat bread made with white flour and pan fried in ghee( clarified butter).

All we were interested in was the above two items. I cannot remember what else was there. We talked about this meal for days. We were invited again to have this meal,it wasn’t the same something was missing, maybe it was missing the love or our hostess wasn’t in a good mood.

DP Daily Prompt: Tourist Trap Post by Ranu

Olympic Stadium

Olympic Stadium (Photo credit: caribb)

At the moment my dream destination is Athens, Greece. We have very good friends in Athens. Maria’s husband Demetrios is a physician. He worked in Newfoundland, for  a few years. He moved back to his native country. We exchange Christmas cards, every year. Their daughter writes to me,Maria says she has difficulty with English. Her daughter kindly writes about the family. I am anxious to see them in their familiar surroundings.

I am also keen on taking this trip, because I studied Greek History and am curious to see the places,I’ve read about. The Olympic stadium would be fascinating to see. I have no knowledge of the language,I’m sure I’ll get help from Maria’s kids. It will be fabulous to visit some of the places where Alexander the great moved around.

housekeeping

housekeeping (Photo credit: pucci.it)

Anything, any place that’s messy makes me anxious and  cranky. When my home is messy, watch out,I am so angry ,I don’t see straight . I have  as my husband put it,O.C.D( obsessive compulsive disorder).Whatever my family thinks I have,I cannot relax until I clean up and straighten up everything. This is how I defend myself, don’t you think everything looks fabulous when things are squeaky clean.I go about my business of making the beds, dusting the furniture, cleaning the bathroom,Vacuuming the rooms. When things are in order,I sit down and look around and am quite pleased with my efforts.

Before the company comes,I make sure everything is in top shape. I don’t want to be called untidy. One of the things that irritates me the most,is a sink full of dirty dishes in the kitchen. I cannot feel at ease until the dishes are washed, dried and put in their respective cupboards. Why should anyone say I have O.C.D,I only try to have a clean and orderly home.

When I wash the chicken after cutting the pieces,I wash them few times,I see vegetables in the super market on the shelves,I bring them home and after cutting them I wash them.I wash the fresh vegetables thoroughly, unless they are in a clean bag with the sign pre-washed.I don’t think I have any kind of disorder,I am careful. In school I tell the kids to wash their hands, before they eat. It’s a healthy habit ,don’t you think?

(Moreecheeka)Mirage by Tagore Translated by Ranu

(Moreecheeka) Rabindranath Tagore

I am roaming around anxiously for the smell

that resembles mine.

On a spring night  I cannot find the direction of the southerly wind.

What I want I mistakenly want, what I get I do not desire.

What I am longing for in my heart

comes back to me like a mirage.

I extend my arms to receive it in my heart  but I cannot find it .

What I want I mistakenly want, what I get is not desired by me.

It seems my flute wants to hold on to my music

anxiously.

What I capture does not have my music anymore.

What I want I mistakenly want , What I get I don’t want.

Song of the road by R.Tagore translated by Ranu

‘Song Of The Road’

You are a traveller, you are the friend of travellers,

travelling shows them the path that leads to you.

On the journey when the traveller sings a happy song

he sings your song in his voice.

He does not want to look behind,

does not row the  boat from shore to shore__

the storm beckons him to the boundless sea

his heart feels your breeze.

only by travelling he can find you.

Traveller ,you are the friend of travellers,

one who loves you  will row your boat.

When he opens the door to look in the front

he is looking only to find you.

He doesn’t think of obstacles or disaster,

he does not hope to gain anything,

his mind is anxious to leave__

because he wants to go to you.

only by travelling he can find you.
