Three people walk into a bar, the bartender turned his attention to figure out if they’d come for some drinks or cause trouble. The three looked like they had joined together only recently. Mr. Smith, the bartender was an easy going man, who did not like any kind of problem.

He noticed there was a big burly dude, a skinny  tall guy and the third one had a long beard colored in a variety of colors. He addressed them at once, “Yes folks what brings you here?”

The beard man was somewhat haughty, “Why do you think, we’ve come here?” He was indignant.

“Well”,  said the bartender, “this is my way of starting a conversation”.

The skinny guy was fidgety, he couldn’t wait to tell the bartender, the purpose of their visit. He said in his shrill voice, ” what if I say we’ve come here to rob your money?”

“Then dear friends, I’ll hand you over to the police.” Mr. Smith the bartender replied.

The big burly dude realized his partners have made the situation unfriendly. It was his turn to smoothe the situation.  He calmly said, “Mr. Bartender, we did not come to cause trouble, we were walking along the road looking for a place where we could sit and have some drinks, please ignore my friends here, I apologize on their behalf.”

The bartender breathed a sigh of relief, he took their order. The drinks were served, the people had their much needed rest. They paid the bartender handsomely and left!

DP Daily Prompts: Delayed Contact

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

How would you get along with your sibling(s), parent(s) or any other person you’ve known for a long time— if you met them for the first time today?

One person I’d love to meet whom I’ve known in my college days is, ‘Aziz Fatima,’ she was a wonderful person, was fair and treated everyone kindly.

If I met her today, first of all I’d be so delighted I wouldn’t know how to interact with her after such a long time.

A few years ago I went to attend a wedding in Baltimore, Maryland, I was hoping by some accident I’d meet her, I thought that because another college friend of mine told me Aziz lives in Baltimore. I looked for her among the people attending the wedding.

Aziz was originally from Uttar Pradesh India, her family settled in Bangladesh. I met her in college, we talked about ourselves and spent hours doing it. The thought I’d never meet her after completing our studies in the University never crossed my mind. I feel it was a mistake on my part not to take her address. I have lost contact with her for a long time.

If I meet her today, after the initial shock I’d certainly invite her to my house and chat for hours about how things shaped up for us after university, I wish I meet her one more time, I’d apologize for not keeping in touch with her.

Malta is a group of islands in the Mediterranean sea.The terrain is low and rocky with coastal cliffs.

Malta ,in the heart of the Mediterranean is a melting pot of civilisations with a history stretching

back thousands of years. The country has been inhabited since around 5200 B.C.a significant prehistoric

civilisation existed on the islands prior to the arrival of the Phoenicians, who named the main island Malat,

meaning ‘Safe Haven.’ Later the islands were for centuries the seat of the ,’Knights of the Hospital of St. John’

and then part of the British Empire.Malta became independent in 1964.

The national language is Maltese, which is part of the Semitic language family that includes Arabic.English is also

recognised  as an official language, and many Maltese speak Italian. The capital of Malta is Valetta. At the crossroads

of the Mediterranean, half-way between Europe and North Africa lies the Maltese archipelago, consisting of three main

islands, Malta(the largest) Gozo and Comino. Gozo the second largest is more rural, characterized by fishing ,tourism

and agriculture,Comino is largely uninhabited.

We arrived in Malta from Heathrow,London. We represented twenty-three different countries. We were received by Maltese officials. Later we were taken to apartments rented for us by our university.I shared the apartment with two students, one was from Malaysia and the other was from Japan,Zakiah Ibrahim,Yukiko Adachi and Chaman. We went to three different schools for our teaching practice.

I loved the children I taught. We stayed in school for the whole day.We came back late afternoon. Zakiah took over as the boss. Our duties were divided by her. I was in charge of breakfast,we had lunch in our respective schools,Zakiah was in charge of supper. Yuki did not have to cook. she was given the duty of washing the dishes after supper.

She was a lovely person, when it came to doing the dishes, she left it for later. In the morning I would wake up and find the dishes in the sink.I had no choice but to wash them.Yuki would in a drowsy tone apologize and say:’ Chaman just wash enough for breakfast.’I washed them all and this is the way it went. Zakiah reminded Yuki of her duty,it didn’t matter, she in her sweet Japanese accent would apologize and promise to take care of her duty.Nothing changed, she continued to be in her land of dreams, while Zakiah and I took care of the rest.We spent a month teaching and sight-seeing whenever possible. The weather in the month of June was fabulous,it was a treat for us.Let me tell you London wasn’t great as far as the weather goes.
