DP Daily Prompt: I’d Like To Thank My Cats

You are receiving an award–either one that already exists, or a new one created just for you. What would the award be, why are you being honored, and what would you say in your acceptance speech?

Right now I’d probably like to get an award for the kindness we show towards our two adorable Siamese+Himalayan breed cats.

Let me tell you it’s not easy to get their approval day in and day out. They do not appreciate us because we give them the best food in the market , it has to be more than this, we must regularly clean their litter, give them some private time when they like to cuddle each other. We humans are only allowed to watch them and tell them how lovely they are.

They give us time too, we have to play with them when they want to and continue as long as they think it’s worthwhile to them.

Everything in the house belongs to them, if we try to tell them, “No it’s not.”

They let us know we are wrong by the pitch of their Meoow, so we say okay it’s yours but do not take it apart.

Raphael and Gabriel keeps us on our toes!

365 Writing Prompts: I’d like to thank my cats

You are receiving an award—either one that already exists or a new one created just for you. What would the award be, why are you being honored, and what would you say in your acceptance speech?

The prompt : I’d like to thank my cats sounds appropriate to me. When we moved to  St. John’s , we were greeted by three cats: JD, Alex and Thursday. Alex wasn’t quite sure about us, so she kept her distance, the other two were friendly and soon we became fond of them.

When it came to feeding and cleaning their litter I volunteered to do the job. The cats showed their appreciation by giving their famous rub, I wasn’t too eager to get this kind of affection, because it meant their fur would stick to my clothes.

I was told this was a sign they love me, I wasn’t too crazy about this love but had to accept it, because they didn’t understand my language and I did not understand theirs.

My husband thought I do so much for the cats every day, he was convinced I’d go to heaven, if what he said is true then folks  the award I’d receive is waiting for me in heaven. I think I’ll hold onto my acceptance speech until I arrive in heaven!

As far as I’m concerned, awards are non-existent in my life. If by any chance it happens in an auspicious day,I’d have to thank my three cats, they meant a world to me.

At first I was not in favor of having any animals in the house, certainly not cats.Things changed when they arrived. I voluntarily took the responsibility of feeding them, cleaning the litter and taking them to the vet. I noticed I fell in love with them, they’d come to me quietly and remind me to give them food. They disliked the vet, they’d hide when they saw the cage.

My friends remarked on several occasions, they wished they were cats, they get so much attention. painters, carpenters, etc. said the same thing. My husband declared one day,” You’ll go to heaven, you take such good care of them.” This declaration topped everything else I heard.

I wondered what would be the opinion of the cats, will they vote for me for an award? Meeow is what they’d say. I’d consider it as ‘Yes’, she should.

All my cats passed away one at a time.  The opportunity to get votes from them no longer exists. If they were alive I am sure they’d keep meeowing until I got an award. So friends no award for me!
