Daily Prompt: Nothin’ But A Good Time

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

Imagine that tomorrow, all your duties and obligations evaporate for the day all to yourself, to do anything you please. What type of fun activities would make your day?

From August eleventh to eighteenth, my daughter and I went for a vacation to Montreal, lovingly called “La belle province” Montreal is the big city of La belle province ‘Quebec.’

We had a great time walking, riding the train to the shopping centre, eating  junk food to our heart’s content. There was no one to warn us, to eat healthy, eat unhealthy was the go of the day.

Then we watched some live tennis matches, even here we ate junk food. Now we are back home thinking about the fabulous days we had.

There was only one downside to these awesome days, our way back home, the airplane ride was awful, although we bought the tickets, they gave us the worst possible seats. When we announced we should get seats so we could sit together, we were told we’d have to pay thirty dollars per person to get the privilege to sit together. Well we had to pay the thirty dollars to move. The Airlines I mean our most favorite airlines is making us pay to check our baggage. Before we paid for the second bag the first was free. Now it is necessary for them to make more money and who pays, we the passengers.

Now that I have related the awesome and the sad story, I’ll get to where I’m offered a day all to myself. do anything I like, I’ll have most fun if I get the freedom to make a large sign why no one should travel by our awesome airlines, the reason , they do not feed you, they sell food, they make us pay for seats which by right we should get. For heavens sake we bought the ticket why should we pay for seats as well. Then the baggage fees is getting higher.

This will give me untold fun!:)

Daily Prompt: Through the Window

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

Go to the nearest window. Look out for a full minute. Write about what you see.

I recall writing this prompt some time ago. the nearest window is the one in my bedroom. Since I’ve already looked out and expressed how awesome it looked through this window. my mind wants me to do the same with the one further away from me, it’s one facing the front of the house.

As I stood there William Wordsworth came to mind, what he would have written compared to   my meaningless  words. I went to my window further away, saw a runner plowing away trying to keep her body fit, while I looked on. There were two others a mother and daughter I presume racing with each other trying to see who can get there first, where I don’t know but the spectacle caught my attention.

Moving on I gazed at the majestic maple trees now in full bloom, green are their leaves and attractive. They know it wouldn’t last the ‘Fall’ would very cruelly shed their leaves on one stormy day and they’d be standing still with nothing to boast of, but  bare trees with naked branches.

On the material side I’m watching a group of men with their machines replacing the green grass with asphalt to convert the place into a parking lot, all because the owners want to make money by renting it to vehicle owners. I feel terrible the greenery is replaced by black tar.

This shows how we’d do anything to wipe out  traces of nature. Why do we complain about the weather, we are responsible for changing the climate, which reminds me, “you reap what you sow! 😦

365 Writing Prompts: Practice makes perfect

Tell us about a talent you’d like to have— but don’t.

I’d like to be a palm reader i.e. a palmist.I’d love to read the palms of my friends, family and strangers. It’d be awesome to watch teary-eyed people finding out their future.

I had someone read my palm a few years back, he told me I’d leave my original home and settle somewhere else. It happens to be true, I didn’t believe him at first,he was not a Professional palmist but did it as a hobby.

I want to learn it and practice it as a hobby.

My brother read all about “Cheiro’s palmistry for all.”

He was impressed by him, Cheiro had read the palm of a lot of famous people and whatever he told them about their future came to be true. Cheiro earned his living reading palms. I of course want to learn and practice it as a hobby.

DP Daily Prompt: Rare Medium

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

Describe a typical day in your life– but do it in a form or in a medium you’ve rarely –if ever –used before. If you’re a photo blogger write a poem.If you’re a poet, write an open letter. If you’re a travel blogger, write a rant. (these are all examples —choose whatever form you feel like trying out!)

Day before yesterday was a fine day,the sun was shining the birds were chirping, the whole city came alive, the past several days it was cold, rainy, windy, it was as if Nature has decided to punish us for what we do to it on a daily basis.

However that day it was superb, I ventured to take my camera and capture this awesome day in my photographs. I’m not a photographer, I haven’t learned the technical aspects of photography, why this is so, is because I didn’t invest any time learning this craft. To me it is look through the camera lens and click, this is what I did, my performance was shabby, I am embarrassed to admit. The tree looked like a stump, the birds were not recognizable.

I tried again a second time, this time my concentration was on houses, let me tell you they looked hideous, I packed my bag and came home, my attempt to take pictures made me realize, I have to spend some quality time learning how to take awesome pictures.

Writing Prompt: Companionable

Head to one of your companionable blogs .Write a companion piece to their penultimate: Next to the last syllable of a word.

I have taken the word from,”Mostly Bright Ideas” by Bronx Boy 55 the post title is:”Plumbing the Depths”.

I have picked the word ‘Language’.

In this awesome world of ours we live with a variety of people who speak different languages. If we are fortunate we are able to speak at least two. If we are energetic and would like to give our brain some exercise we may learn one other. But there are other lucky ones who grow up with four or five.

Language can be an impediment for someone like me. Yes I live in a country where we are required to be bilingual, we must be able to speak English and French.

I went to Montreal hoping the sales clerks would speak English because my thinking was I’m going to buy something and you must speak the language I know. I didn’t get anywhere with that thought. The sales lady stood with her back towards me pretending I did not exist. I was offended by her lack of manners, she didn’t care. The little bit of French I knew did not stay in my cranium, I was lost, and at that moment when your daughter who is watching everything quietly nudges me and says,”Mom you know this much French”.

“I know but I  cannot remember”,  I said.I was nervous, her reminder did not help much. This situation reminded me of the time in the exam hall when my mind was totally blank, I held the question paper looked at it and was cursing my room mate who made me stay up till 1:30 am to study. My memory did return. That was then this is now, what was I going to do?

Lucky for me, a very kind and gentle sales woman came to me, she had the most gorgeous smile, she said, “Vous avez servi?( Are you served)?

I knew she’d understand if I said I cannot speak French.I didn’t speak in English,I opted to use sign language, well I was never trained to speak in sign language, but the nice sales woman understood my difficulty, she decided to speak English, boy, was I ever relieved!

DP Daily Prompt: Good fences?

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

I have some awesome neighbors. One we are very close to is an English Prof. We always hang out with each other. Christmas time she cooks and we have dinner together. Once I volunteered to cook the Turkey for Christmas dinner, she wouldn’t let me. She knows we don’t celebrate Christmas.

Whenever my daughter bakes I always remind her, aren’t you going to bake one for her. My daughter smiles and says.”yes Mom this is why I’m baking two.

She loves chocolate, when I go to the store and see something good I’d buy for her.

We got to know each other when she she bought the house across the street from us. On snow days when my daughter goes out to shovel , my neighbor would come out to give her a hand. We are blessed to have a neighbor like her.

DP Daily Prompt: Standstill Post by Ranu

Time is important in our lives, yet we aren’t concerned when we waste it. Whether we  do so by idle gossip, lazing around, watching television,or nothing at all. Despite the fact we keep hearing the words “Time and Tide waits for no one!”

If “Time” itself gives us the opportunity by standing still, for just a moment, what on earth can we tweak in,at that precise moment? Personally,I’d pray to God to forgive me for all the time I’ve wasted doing unimportant things when I had the time to thank Him for being so kind to me , providing me with : food, shelter, all the necessities of life and above all friends and awesome people I met in this life!

DP Daily Prompt: Smell You Later Post by Ranu

English: Eid Ul-Fitr meal

English: Eid Ul-Fitr meal (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

This prompt takes me back to the days when I was eight years old. After a month of fasting,we were excited to wear our new  clothes for ‘Eid al Fitr’ ,celebration.Mom would get her bottle of rose perfume and put some on us,the smell was heavenly. My Dad would come back from the mosque with my brothers. The smell of rose perfume, made us aware they were coming back.

Our present besides the new clothes, was money that our Dad gave all of us. The enchanting smell of my Mom’s fabulous cooking reminded us we’ll get to eat her tasty dishes.

Eid-al-Fitr  transports me back to good old days, when everything smelled awesome. Rose perfume, food, new clothes, good company, they were synonymous with Eid. How can I not go back to those days, when life was uncomplicated and everything around me felt like I was in heaven!

DP Daily Prompt: Tables Turned Posted by Ranu

Tables turned is best for me when I am in control.I like being in front of the camera, rather than behind. Staying behind brings a lot of doubt in my mind.I do not feel comfortable. My worse fear is being written about.I love writing a story,a biography or a translation. It gives me the opportunity to express myself.

I am not a person who can do much, when I am written about. I dislike it. Sometimes I find people are cruel. I am more relaxed and happy when I get to write,it can be anything.

There are two kinds of criticism, one destroys a person’s confidence. The other is the one that encourages. Blogging has given me the chance to read comments of people who visit my blog. They are exceptional, they help me by their awesome comments. As yet I did not feel intimidated by any of the bloggers who visit. This is something very positive for me. They let me be in control, which is the best spot for me. I am very thankful to all those visitors on my blog.who have helped this far.
