365 writing Prompts: Shoulda,woulda,coulda

Tell us about something you know you should do— but don’t.

Yes there are a few things I  put on hold, but I know they need my immediate attention. This year I am hoping to take care of it, it’s my basement which is my headache, I have so many things to reorganize it gives me a headache when I think about it.

I am thinking of starting in the Spring, it’s the time of the year when the city’s garbage collectors pick up our unwanted stuff that we hoarded for I don’t know how long, it’s time to get rid of them, to make the basement look half decent.

This is one of the things I have on my list, other things are clothing, shoes, I know there are a few places in the city who will take them. For now this is what I have to do, let’s hope I can.

DP Daily Prompts: To Be Resolved

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

We’re entering the final days of 2014–how did you do on your New Year’s resolutions these past 11.75 months? I s there any leftover item to be carried over to 2015?

The words final days sounds so dreadful and permanent. I cannot recall making any resolutions particularly on New Year’s day 2014.

What I’ve done so far is I resolved to take care of certain things on a daily basis, some I do, others I just ignore, I tell myself I am not in a mood or there is something else more important than the one I am thinking about.

One thing I never leave by the wayside is writing my prompts, something about them makes me do it, I wish I knew what it is that drives me to write these prompts. It is not that I have a queue waiting out to read  my blog, there is only one, God bless him he clicks the like button and writes his comment with so much gusto that I feel I can never disappoint him.

Coming back to leftovers, they are a way of my life, I am so thankful to whoever invented the refrigerator, I get to put away the unconsumed food in that wonderful appliance.

I do have a lot of leftover items to be carried over to 2015, it is my basement. I have to set things in order. There are so many things in there I sometimes wonder, why did I put them in the basement, I could throw them out, but I don’t know about others there is always that pack rat mentality, which stops me from discarding anything. I now am facing the problem of an overstuffed basement with things I may never use.

Yes my New Year’s resolution in the coming year 2015 is to clean my basement, I cannot make any other resolution, this alone may take me a good part of 2015!

DP Daily Prompts: In Due Time

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

What’s your next, most pressing deadline? Are you stressed, excited or ambivalent about it? What’s the first thing you’d like to do once you’re done with it?

I cannot write how long I’ve had this deadline, i.e, clearing out my basement, every year I make up my mind to do it, something or someone gets in my way and I’m left with the same problem of a basement that’s crying out loud,”when will you have time to make me look presentable?”

Perhaps I’ll never find the kind of time when I’d want to clear it.

Winter is upon us and clearing involves taking out things out of this area, the city will start taking the trash or unwanted rubbish only in Spring, I have to wait till my turn comes to put all the things I cannot use on my lawn at the back.

In the mean time I will make up a list of things that are in the basement, which need to vacate the area they’re occupying.

I’m eagerly waiting for Spring to carry out my plan to make my basement squeaky clean. Some might say they doubt it will ever happen, but I have faith which alone will help me.

What’s the first thing I’ll do once I’m done with it, I’m sure going to have a day of prayer, thank God Almighty for giving me the strength to complete this arduous task. I’ll let my feline roll on the floor which is his greatest desire, he did not get the chance yet, he cries every day because we do not let him go to a place full of mess.

The last thing which is the fun part, I’ll have some decent furniture, arrange them and have a party with friends and neighbors.

I hope it does not turn out like the milkmaid story of building castles in the air!

365 Writing Prompts: To boldly go…..

An impending new year gives rise to reflection and goal setting. What will your goals for 2015 be? It’s never too early to start thinking about self improvement!

As 2014 is coming to an  end I’m thinking of some of the positive and negative things that I was faced with.

First the positive, it’s a year when I was able to continue with the WordPress prompts. I admit I have learned a lot . I’ve trained my mind to think, I feel I have done a fair job, by this I mean there is room for improvement.

I also enjoyed writing five minute fiction by Lillie. At first I wasn’t sure how it will work out for me, I have a few bloggers who read my stories and write their comments, I am grateful to them, their continued support keeps me motivated.

In the home front my progress is almost nil. I wanted to fix the basement I haven’t been able to do so.

I’m keeping up with the online course, I do run into problems now and then, it’s not the course itself there are other things that are not so enjoyable.

Before 2015 knocks at my door, I’d like to take care of the things that I was unable to do in 2014. I must realize I cannot take care of everything as soon as possible, the moment this thought hits me I’ll do the same as I did in 2014,nothing, it is a lesson I need to learn.

To improve my writing I should put in a lot more time, to do well.

I’m also thinking of utilizing more time to photography. This is one area where I have not done anything to get better.

I intend to continue with the online course and ignore negative things that upset me.

DP Daily Prompts: Sweeping Motions

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

What’s messier right now — your bedroom or your computer’s desktop(or your favorite devices home screen)? Tell us how and why it got to that state.

My laptop is placed on a table, it has hardly enough space to put my laptop and the mouse, of course there is the telephone too. If I try to move any of them it’ll be disastrous, so they are enjoying the space and nothing else has room to sit there.

I do not have too many devices, the ones that are there are skilfully put in the drawers, our large TV occupies more space than anything else, there is hardly enough room to be messy, however when our felines get overly anxious to catch the ball bounced on TV by tennis players they’re careful enough and therefore they do not fall off.

The place in my house which is the messiest is the basement, we tend to put our discarded things there, hoping to get rid of them as soon as possible, it hasn’t happened yet, but more and more junk is piling up with the same intention of clearing it when we’re free, when we are free our mind is not, so the junk remains. It’s not a good excuse I know, it can’t be helped!

DP Daily Prompts: To Do? Done!

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

Quickly list five things you’d like to  to change in your life. Now write a post about a day in your life once all five have been crossed off your to-do list.

Here is a list of five things I’d like to change in my life:

1. unclutter my clothes closet.

2. Fix the basement.

3. change the living room furniture.

4. clean out the refrigerator.

5. Read the books I have in my shelf.

My clothes closet looks half decent. I put my clothes in order, the ones I won’t wear I  put aside for the clothes line people to come and pick up.

I have ordered new furniture to replace the old ones. I’ll call habitat for humanity to pick up the old furniture on Monday.

I am hoping the refrigerator can be cleaned in a day.

Reading the books will take a lot more time,I’ve already started one of them, hopefully I may finish reading them in a couple of months.

So about four months from now I’ll have a decent looking clothes closet, I’ll start getting rid of the unimportant things in the basement.

In a week’s time the furniture store will send the furniture we ordered. They are responsible to unpack and put them where we want.

I have to take out all the food out of the refrigerator clean it and put back only the ones that are in good shape.

Once four things on my list are crossed off my to-do list. I’d relax and start reading the books I haven’t read yet.

DP Daily Prompts: You, Robot

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

Congrats—you’ve been handed a robot whose sole job is to relieve you of one chore, job, or responsibility you particularly hate. What is it?

It sounded good when I first read it as I started thinking about this robot, I was faced with a dilemma, what kind of responsibility can I transfer on to It’s shoulders, is it anything or only certain things. The prompt says the robot’s sole job is to relieve me of a chore or responsibility I hate.

First thing that comes to my mind is my basement, it will be awesome if I can transfer the responsibility of cleaning it, up to the robot. There are a lot of things I do not use and  can be thrown away if someone can help me with it. I do have useful things there which needs to be sorted out.

My life without a computer will be miserable. I had this experience a few weeks ago. My computer crashed.I was unable to post or send email to my dear friends.

I went to the store and bought one.If this happens again,I will start reading all the books in my shelf. The books are sad I am not giving them the time. Once I finish reading,I will be the most learned person in my room.

What will I do next.I will gather all my sarees together and find the blouse to wear with them. Put them in one suitcase or my closet with a large tag, which will read ‘Ranu’s sarees.

I’ll tidy up my neglected basement, make it look like someone still lives in the house. While I’m doing all this,I may not miss my computer. Then again maybe not what about all those Bollywood movies I haven’t seen. The songs I wish to hear. I also have to read about different countries of the world.

Come to think of it,I cannot function without my computer!

DP Daily Prompt : Dream Home Post by Ranu

Dream Home backyard 4

Dream Home backyard 4 (Photo credit: jeweledlion)

So I have won a contest to build my “Dream Home”,here is my plan: I would like to have this home built according to my specification. It has to be a bungalow. Two storeyed is not an option. I would like to have three bedrooms. Each bedroom will have an attached bathroom. I would like a large kitchen, with a lot of cupboards for the dishes and pots and pans, also a broom closet. The kitchen should be equipped with double sink.

The living and dining room should be separate.

I would like a finished basement with a family room and a bathroom as well. This is a necessity for kids who won’t have to come up to use the bathroom.

The house should have a lawn, there should be flowers of all kinds. It will be useful to have perennials. It’s cheaper to have them instead of annuals. The garden should have automatic sprinkler system.

The driveway needs to be wide,to enable at least two cars to be parked.

This just about sums up my plan I think. If I can have a house like the one I have written,it will be superb for me.
