Blogging 201, day nine

Day nine: The Buddy System

Are we nearly done already? Time evaporates when you’re having fun.The commons is filled with lively conversations and tons of support.

Do you have a blogger who comments thoughtfully on your posts_ that person who always takes the time to ask a good question or add something   witty or insightful to add to the conversation? Your thoughtful commenter might just become your blogging BFF. If there’s a blog that always brings out the best in you, that’s another place to start.

There is a blogger I’ve known for three plus years. He and I started the online course on Poet Iqbal at the same time.

He is the first one who started blogging which gave me an idea, something I’d never known before.

He has become a very good friend. He always writes his comments whenever I post something. He is witty and insightful, he never fails to encourage me and my writing.

He I think is my most thoughtful commenter. Yes I think he does qualify to become my blogging BFF.

His name is Robert.

365 Writing Prompts: Great or greatest

What makes a blog great? What makes you follow a blog or “Like” a post?

Blogs are great when I know the blogger has worked hard to make it interesting. There are bloggers who mainly post photographs, those people are gifted photographers. It’s a joy to see their awesome photographs. There are bloggers who are gifted poets, they can write on any subject and also combine it with photographs, these are talented people.

I follow blogs written by my friends, I’ve started following some blogs where the blogger tries very hard to do well. I think they need encouragement and I also like reading their post.

I have a few followers, I follow a few, it’s easier because it takes time to read the post and write my comment. I like to write comments when I read a post, I don’t feel happy just by clicking the “like” button.

365 Writing Prompts: Blogging

When I started blogging I knew nothing about it. I read a post written by Robert another blogger and wondered if I should try as well. I had no idea how to begin I was helped by Akhtar Waseem Dar, he suggested to start translating some of Tagore’s Poems because I am a Bengali and know the language.

It wasn’t easy, as a young child poetry was my best subject, I read all kinds of poetry written by famous poets. I learned English, Bengali and Urdu in school. I learned to read, write and speak in these languages. Since Bengali is my mother tongue, I had more opportunities to read Bengali poems written by famous poets.

I loved Tagore’s poems, he wrote a lot of poems for children, one of them was: Brishti paurhey tapur tupur : meaning Rain is falling drip drop. This was the first one I translated, Akhtar Bhai(Bhai means brother in Bengali and Urdu) I use brother to show respect. He read the translation and encouraged me a lot. He thought I did a good job. I began to feel confident, I continued to translate Tagore’s poems for a while, then I switched to his song lyrics and started translating them as well. All this time Akhtar Bhai continued to encourage me. There were times I felt insecure, I didn’t know if my translation was worth reading. I’d let my daughter read it before posting, she’d read it and say: “Mom I like it.” this encouraged me more.

Now Robert whom I’ve known from my online courses is a great help, he reads everything I write and always writes very valuable and encouraging comment.

Then there is Khurram A.Shafique, a writer I’ve known through online courses, he is also the facilitator of the course. I address him as brother. He has been very helpful like a real brother. I feel fortunate to have these three awesome individuals encouraging me.

I cannot remember how but along the way I met Leslie Moon, she is a very gifted poet , I love reading her poetry, I write my comment most of the time, sometimes I’m not sure what to write.

I had once mentioned about not having enough readers of my post, she encouraged me to read posts written by other bloggers. I do read some of the posts and leave my comment. This is how I met Indira.

I am happy I have written and posted quite a few translations, stories, a few poems.  I love reading and memorizing poems but writing them regularly is not one of my strong points, so I leave it for Leslie to write and me to enjoy 🙂

DP Daily Prompt: Fireside Chat

pad2015-s1.png (308Ă—60)

What person whom you don’t know very well in real life—- it could be a blogger whose writing you enjoy, a friend you recently made, etc.,would you like to have over for a long chat in which they tell you their life story?

I think it’s not possible to select a blogger whose writing I enjoy, to have over for a long chat, I simply won’t feel comfortable and neither would she. I do not think I’d tell my life story to someone I just met.

Having written that, I do know someone whom I met while surfing the internet. I know this person long enough to be able to have a long chat, I am certain this person won’t mind having a long chat with me.

I sometimes feel that in our journey of life, we meet people who are better than a relative, they are more understanding and it’s easy to interact with them.

365 Writing Prompts: Bloggers, unplugged

Sometimes, we all need a break from these little glowing boxes. How do you know when it’s time to unplug? What do you do to make it happen?

I usually start working on blogging after my breakfast. I check the prompts, writing prompts is the one I do first. Some days I am able to do the prompts other days I put some thought into it.

Most of the time I wait for the daily prompt, when it is posted I begin writing, if it’s  something not too complicated,I am able to get it done in fifteen minutes.

I do get tired after sitting in front of the lap top for more than an hour. I then turn it off do some chores around the house or better yet I go out, I take the bus to the mall where I look around, I mean I window shop, then I  come home, play with our kittens.

365 Writing Prompts: Ebb and flow

Our blogs morph over time, as interest shifts and life happens. Write a post for your blog but three years in the future.

The way things are going in the blogging world,I’m not sure what I’ll do three years in the future.I might turn into a poet, because I’m translating so many poems of Tagore, this is one option, I’m also interested in photography, if I start from this moment I might turn into a half decent photographer, in the words of George Bernard Shaw,”You never can tell.”

Chances are good I may pick up the art of writing poetry, and also photography, these two things may look different from what I’ve been writing since I joined “WordPress.”

365 Writing Prompts: Secret of success

What would it take for you to consider yourself a “successful blogger”? Is that something you strive for?

When I started blogging I did not think of success, it was something unknown to me, I wanted to see how I’d do, in other words will the other seasoned bloggers be interested to read my posts, there were a few. I was not disappointed, I felt even if I had one blogger who reads my post every day, I’d feel I am successful.

Fortunately there is one who reads it and finds whatever I write interesting, and always writes wonderful comments.

I do not strive to become a successful blogger, I wanted to become a successful teacher, I became one as far as the administrators and the children are concerned. I did not get any award for it, but I was happy to know the children ,their parents and the principals I worked with liked me. This is the kind of success I like.

365 Writing Prompt:Your life, the book

From a famous writer or a celebrity, to a wordpress.com blogger or someone close to you–who would you like to be your biographer? My biographer, I think  I’ll choose my friend of many years to write my biography.

She knows a lot about me, some parts of my life she doesn’t know such as where I grew up I can help her with that. I prefer people who know me well to write it.

I’ve only known some of the bloggers no more than a couple of months, there are some I know longer. To write a biography requires a long time to research; the facts have to be true; there may not be people who’d be interested to write my biography.

I can pretend they are  interested, at this time I only want my friend to write it.

365 days Writing Prompt: Switcheroo

If you could switch blogs with any blogger for a week, with whom would you switch with and why?

I don’t think I’d switch with any blogger right now ,I’ve already done this prompt. What I’d like to do is I’d check the bloggers who are creative and impressive.I’d  switch for a day to know how their system works, if I’m not comfortable I’d move on to the next one, I’ll spend the week observing seven blogs, on the seventh day, I’d start writing notes to the seven bloggers thanking them for letting me observe their blogs.

I’ll see which ones have taught me something, I might borrow some of their impressive stuff with their permission.

Writing Prompt: Key Takeaway 365 days May 7

Give your newer sisters and brothers -in-WordPress one piece of advice based on your experiences blogging. If you’re anew blogger, what one question you’d like to ask other bloggers?

My advice to newer bloggers is to visit all the blogs they can, read the post, leave your comment, make a mental note which ones you can learn from,do not forget the ones where the writer has a great sense of humor, that can be helpful to string along a few to your site, humor in a witty sense, then there are bloggers who have a definite gift of writing poems, uses a wide variety of subjects, note  which one is popular, have a note-book handy to jot down some of the sites where you can get good ideas.

If I was a new blogger,my question would be how long did it take you to increase traffic at your site? Are all these people your friends or are they people you never heard about,if so what kind of writing draws them to your site?
