Writing 101,Day 20: Wrap it Up

Today’s assignment is “Wrap it Up”

Publish a course wrap up:what did you enjoy or dislike?

Describe a day, assignment , or a Commons exchange in which you experienced an “Aha!”  moment.

In December, I plan to …

5,10 ,20 years from now….

This was my second time doing this course, I feel sad to see it’s ending today. I knew no one in the course but always felt if I have any problem someone will come to my rescue.

On Day 9 when we were told to prepare to collaborate with a blogger, suddenly I was concerned, I did not know if I could reach out to anyone, to do this assignment. I waited a few days and wrote on the Commons to @Cheri, I did not know anyone well enough to do this  assignment, if I could do an alternate assignment. Her reply was I’m welcome to do it, but one of the bloggers whom I didn’t know came forward and volunteered to interview me.

I hadn’t read it, at first but one of the bloggers said,”Ranu grab it!”

I did not understand what I should grab. I went back to the comments section, waiting for me was ,@Cheri’s and Philippa’s comment. I was pleased I would be able to collaborate with Philippa.

I sent her an email in which I told her I’d be very glad to work with her.

She wanted me to be the interviewee, which I gladly accepted. She then sent me an email with questions to answer. I answered her questions and sent it back.

When I did not hear from her I thought she didn’t get my email. I asked her and found out she had problems with her computers. All this was fixed soon.

Her final email was to see if the answers were all right, there were a few I fixed.

Everything went smoothly and I felt relieved I did not have to cop out of this assignment the second time. Philippa is a great blogger I was extremely pleased to meet her, she helped me out of my misery by collaborating with me. She did most of the work. I’m very grateful to her, it was a huge help to me.

Our blogging community and the WordPress team needs to be congratulated for making us aware that we are a family. We will always be there for each other!

365 Writing Prompts: Million-dollar-question

Why do you blog?

First of all, it gives me something to do, or my brain will start to rust. I get the opportunity to read other bloggers’ posts. It makes me think, when I see the prompts   and write my post,  I enjoy reading the feedback left by bloggers who read it.

The most important thing I feel is the interaction with different bloggers. I’ve discovered some bloggers who are very good photographers, some write poetry, others excel in describing their environment.

In the few years I’m blogging I’ve realized I have learned a lot about cooking, some share their recipes, so we can try and see if we like the food.

365 Writing Prompts: To boldly go…..

An impending new year gives rise to reflection and goal setting. What will your goals for 2015 be? It’s never too early to start thinking about self improvement!

As 2014 is coming to an  end I’m thinking of some of the positive and negative things that I was faced with.

First the positive, it’s a year when I was able to continue with the WordPress prompts. I admit I have learned a lot . I’ve trained my mind to think, I feel I have done a fair job, by this I mean there is room for improvement.

I also enjoyed writing five minute fiction by Lillie. At first I wasn’t sure how it will work out for me, I have a few bloggers who read my stories and write their comments, I am grateful to them, their continued support keeps me motivated.

In the home front my progress is almost nil. I wanted to fix the basement I haven’t been able to do so.

I’m keeping up with the online course, I do run into problems now and then, it’s not the course itself there are other things that are not so enjoyable.

Before 2015 knocks at my door, I’d like to take care of the things that I was unable to do in 2014. I must realize I cannot take care of everything as soon as possible, the moment this thought hits me I’ll do the same as I did in 2014,nothing, it is a lesson I need to learn.

To improve my writing I should put in a lot more time, to do well.

I’m also thinking of utilizing more time to photography. This is one area where I have not done anything to get better.

I intend to continue with the online course and ignore negative things that upset me.

365 days Writing Prompt: Switcheroo

If you could switch blogs with any blogger for a week, with whom would you switch with and why?

I don’t think I’d switch with any blogger right now ,I’ve already done this prompt. What I’d like to do is I’d check the bloggers who are creative and impressive.I’d  switch for a day to know how their system works, if I’m not comfortable I’d move on to the next one, I’ll spend the week observing seven blogs, on the seventh day, I’d start writing notes to the seven bloggers thanking them for letting me observe their blogs.

I’ll see which ones have taught me something, I might borrow some of their impressive stuff with their permission.

365 days Writing Prompt: Goals

When you started your blog ,did you set any goals? Have you achieved them? Have they changed at all?

I didn’t have any goals when I started blogging, perhaps there was one goal in my mind, what does it mean and how does it work. I have learned that part, who wouldn’t if you spend as long as I did.

In the beginning I wrote about different things, I did not have any plan what was the right thing to do. Then a friend suggested translating Tagore’s work, I do not consider myself an expert, but I was willing to try, the fact that it was my mother tongue it was helpful, I felt some of my online friends appreciated the writing of Tagore but could not understand because of the language. I solved the problem by my translation.

I have written about different cities in Bangladesh, I had to do some research, I didn’t visit all the places I only knew the names. This research was helpful to me as well.

At present I’m busy doing the writing and the daily prompt, some are interesting, it gives me an incentive to write.

DP Daily Prompt: Just Another Day

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

Our days are organized around numerous small actions we repeat over and over. What’s your favorite daily ritual?

My everyday most important ritual is to wake up at 4 am in the morning, it is changing everyday due to the longer days. I wash and get ready to say the prayer before sunrise. It takes me twenty-four minutes to complete it. The morning prayer only takes about seven minutes, I’ve added few more where I pray for my Mom,Dad, brothers, sister, nephew and niece who are not with us anymore.

I’ve also included my very dear writer friend . It gives me great pleasure to pray for all of them. I do not know whether my prayers will be answered or not,I do tell myself I’m praying for their well-being so there will be no question in the mind of God about my real motive.

After the morning prayer I go back to bed to see if I can  sleep,if not I get up, talk with our two cute kittens what they’ve been up to and to my daughter what her plans are after work.

Next on the list of other things is I find out what the writing prompt is and try to write something, if it is a repetition of a previous prompt I skip it.

I cook supper, for lunch I make a sandwich for myself. I read my book by Reza Aslan, he is an excellent writer and I find his writing enjoyable.

I watch some TV when my chores are done, I also read posts of bloggers I follow, they are terrific writers. These are some of the things I do daily.

Writing Prompt: Key Takeaway 365 days May 7

Give your newer sisters and brothers -in-WordPress one piece of advice based on your experiences blogging. If you’re anew blogger, what one question you’d like to ask other bloggers?

My advice to newer bloggers is to visit all the blogs they can, read the post, leave your comment, make a mental note which ones you can learn from,do not forget the ones where the writer has a great sense of humor, that can be helpful to string along a few to your site, humor in a witty sense, then there are bloggers who have a definite gift of writing poems, uses a wide variety of subjects, note  which one is popular, have a note-book handy to jot down some of the sites where you can get good ideas.

If I was a new blogger,my question would be how long did it take you to increase traffic at your site? Are all these people your friends or are they people you never heard about,if so what kind of writing draws them to your site?

DP Daily Prompt: Singular Sensation

A few months ago I was fortunate to know her. She was positive. She wrote my translations of Tagore’s poems and songs were good. She was fortunate to understand some of the poems and songs written by him.

I was going through a period when I felt I wasn’t getting enough readers and that I was wasting my time.  She encouraged me and told me to read other blogs, to make myself known to different bloggers. I do that nowadays. I am thankful to her,she was genuinely interested.

There are other bloggers who regularly visit and leave their comment. I am grateful to them too.

I’d like to thank them for reading my posts . It is encouraging to read their comments.

DP Daily Prompt: Tables Turned Posted by Ranu

Tables turned is best for me when I am in control.I like being in front of the camera, rather than behind. Staying behind brings a lot of doubt in my mind.I do not feel comfortable. My worse fear is being written about.I love writing a story,a biography or a translation. It gives me the opportunity to express myself.

I am not a person who can do much, when I am written about. I dislike it. Sometimes I find people are cruel. I am more relaxed and happy when I get to write,it can be anything.

There are two kinds of criticism, one destroys a person’s confidence. The other is the one that encourages. Blogging has given me the chance to read comments of people who visit my blog. They are exceptional, they help me by their awesome comments. As yet I did not feel intimidated by any of the bloggers who visit. This is something very positive for me. They let me be in control, which is the best spot for me. I am very thankful to all those visitors on my blog.who have helped this far.
