Daily Prompt: Brainwave

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

What’s the better idea you’ve ever had? Regale us every detail of the idea_ the idea itself, where it came to you, and the problem it solved.

The best idea I ever had was when my friend Robert started blogging, and I wanted to find out what blogging was and could I try it as well. I asked my good friend, he encouraged me and said, he was thinking of telling me to pick up the craft of blogging.

In the beginning there were a few roadblocks I had to deal with. For instance what can I write about, another friend stepped in and suggested it would be a neat idea if I translated Tagore’s poems. I was thrilled but had to tread cautiously. Yes I knew the language as it happened to be my mother tongue, there was a ‘but’ factor lingering in my brain.

Was I capable of taking a risk like that. I did not admit I was scared, at heart I was. This task was not easy, I had no experience translating.

I started with a short one and slowly I was feeling confident. I translated several poems and my friend encouraged me all along.

From time to time I found other things to do. I discovered the every day daily post. I read the prompts and began to write.

From prompts I went to five sentence fiction writing. Each week we were given a one word prompt, we were expected to write a story based on the prompt.I wrote stories for a while. It was discontinued.

I looked for other things to do. I joined the 101 writing course offered by WordPress. It lasted for four weeks. I loved it, I was able to keep myself busy.

The recent poetry course offered by WordPress was one I loved the most. I loved to read, recite memorize poetry, I did not have the experience of writing it.

I’m glad I joined blogging , I’m gaining experience writing things I haven’t done before.

Blogging 101 Day Six: Make an Irresistible “About” Page

Today’s assignment: create and publish your About page, then either adapt it into a widget on your home page or add it to your menu.

I used to wonder why I love ‘Nature’ so much until I thought of my given name “Chaman”, it means a garden. I dislike plucking the beautiful flowers around me, I know when I pulled them out from their habitation . I am killing them. They look awesome in their own habitat. Who am I to displace them, I certainly wouldn’t want someone to remove me away from my lovely abode.

I’m fond of all the colors nature presents us. I have a certain affinity with blue,in  my childhood any dress I wore had to be blue or else I would rebel if my mom tried some other color.

I was an okay student,my teachers were never worried about me but felt I’d be amazing if I could spare a few minutes of my playtime and concentrated on books. It never happened I went along on my own pace, I could not get the enthusiasm as my classmates did to be the top student in my class.

Things took a slight turn, when I became conscious I was in post graduate class, that my performance had to be better than okay. Destiny was alerting me it’s now or never as it does if one wants to change it. The lover of garden ,nature or what have you transformed into a lover of serious studies. I did not abandon nature but I spent less time strolling around to be Wordsworth. My time was limited, I could not ‘wander lonely as a cloud.’

My transformation awarded me scholarships which I was delighted to receive. I saw a part of the world which would not have been possible. I didn’t have the financial backing, my brothers helped me with my education, it would be selfish of me to ask for more support to go to England to study.

Here I am a plain human being who joined the blogging community to learn more about myself and the rest of the world!

365 Writing Prompts: Singular sensation

If one experience or life change results from you writing your blog, what would you like it to be?

The first day I started blogging I had no aim in mind. I wanted to know what it’s about. Now after blogging for over two years, it has become a part of me. I look forward to the prompts and the impression of bloggers who read my writing.

Slowly but surely I am wondering what does it take to write an unbelievable poem like some bloggers I’ve come into contact with or dare to write a story which will attract more bloggers than I have right now. All these are thoughts that I have, when they can come into fruition I wonder.

I have written several five sentence fiction, if I gather these stories  into one long story and publish a book of short stories, will it fulfill my desire ? I don’t know, at this point I am only curious about these things.

I also know just because I’m writing I will not become a novelist overnight, it needs a special skill to be one. Although I do believe if I could use my writing experience and wrote a book of short stories it will definitely give me the kind of confidence I’m lacking at this time.

Daily Prompt: On the Edge

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

We all have things we need to do to keep an even keel–blogging, exercising, reading, cooking. What’s yours?

I need to do all of the above ,plus I have to feed the felines two to three times a day to keep them happy. If I’m slightly late they go after my books, climb the piano to mess up the pictures on the wall, if all these things do not work i.e the food is still delayed, they knock the lamps down, and in their language would look at me with wide eyes and say, “What is wrong with you, did you not get the message yet?

On Tuesdays I collect the garbage to get ready to be picked up on Wednesday. I go for grocery shopping at least once a week, which becomes a headache, the produce look like they’ve waited long enough to be bought, if I’m unable to buy them within two days of their arrival, all I can hope for is half rotten fruits and vegetables.

Their excuse is , because of the distance covered to come to Newfoundland by truck , the produce is not fresh, so we grin and bear it.

There are some local farmers who grow some vegetables that are climate friendly. If one wants to eat vegetables grown in warmer countries they’ll have to be contented with half rotten vegetables.

I’m probably not painting a rosy picture, we’ve grown used to it, we also buy frozen vegetables which look better than the so called fresh ones.

Daily Prompt: Blogger in a Strange Land

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

What’s the strangest place from which you’ve posted your blog? When was the last time you were out and about and suddenly thought, “I need to write about this”?

I was in Montreal last year, my daughter and I rented an apartment in “Beaubien”, the landlord was a nice young man, though a Frenchman, he tried his best to speak English. I noticed in a few days he was speaking unbelievably well in the language. he made me believe if we try we can always learn languages with relative ease.

The apartment was on the top storey, it had winding stairs leading up to the apartment. When I looked up I couldn’t be sure I’d want to climb up and down those stairs daily, after I climbed up and down once it became a habit and it did not trouble me anymore.

In that spacious two bedroom apartment with  large living dining  and a huge kitchen. I’d comfortably sit on one of the chairs and do blogging.

I never missed a day, each morning after breakfast I’d take my laptop in the kitchen ready to write the prompts. Sunlight  streaming through the window, made my writing more enjoyable.

After completing my writing prompt, I’d go out to see some of the shops, my daughter wanted to buy shoes, I told myself I don’t want any shoes, so I won’t buy.

While sitting in the shoe store I decide to get up and walk about, it was the biggest mistake I made, I saw a pair and felt there’s no harm trying it on, I won’t buy them. Well the shoes looked adorable on my feet, I just had to buy it, then I bought another and another, I ended up buying three pairs. I could not check my temptation.

I came back with three pairs of shoes, I gave in to temptation, next thing I realized we have to buy  a suitcase to pack all the stuff we bought.

Daily Prompt: Do Not Disturb

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

How do you manage your online your online privacy? Are there certain things you do not post in certain places? Information you’ll never share online? Or do you assume information about you is accessible anyway?

I like blogging, and am not interested to register on Facebook, and other things out there. It serves me no purpose, I am doing fine without getting involved with the social networks.

I write as much as I need to about myself , I feel good this way. I’ve been told I can increase my followers if I’m involved with the social networks. At this moment I have enough followers anymore will take up too much of my time, which will be unmanageable.

I do not assume anything, who knows me and who doesn’t is not my concern.

I have a few good friends who are bloggers, I enjoy reading their post and hope they like mine.

Daily Prompt: A Mystery Wrapped in Enigma

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

Tell us something most people probably don’t know about you.

I have two names, one is Ranu which is a nickname, my family members and close relatives call me Ranu. Most of my relatives do not know my second name.

My second name is Chaman, my classmates and my school friends call me Chaman.

I do not have too many friends, because I’m not outgoing. I like spending time at home. I dislike going out in the evening, sometimes I’m forced to go out.

Rice is my favorite food. I love spicy food, I avoid eating bland food.

I love vegetables, but I do not care for fruits.

Among proteins I enjoy any kind of fish. I am not fond of chicken, I eat it. I find chicken tasteless, no matter how many different spices I use to cook it, I do not find it that good. Beef is my favorite meat. I can cook it many different ways.

I love learning languages, lately I haven’t tried to learn a new language. I find Spanish easier to learn than French.

I am very fond of music, my favorite singers are Mohammed Rafi, Lata, Tagore, Talat Mehmood and Celine Dion. Celine is a French Canadian singer, the rest are from India.

My favorite pastime is blogging, reading novels in three languages, the languages are: Bengali(my mother tongue) Urdu I learned to speak, read and write in school . I have tons of novels in English.

Right now I’m reading, “The American Dervish”, I read almost all the books written by Paolo Coelho.

I spend a lot of time with my feline friends : Gabriel and Raphael.

This is all about me.

#65 Writing Prompts: Key takeaway

Give your new sisters and brothers-in-WordPress one piece of advice based on your experiences blogging. If you’re a new blogger, what’s one question you’d like to ask other bloggers?

My advice to the new sisters and brothers-in-WordPress is : “visit as many blogs as you can, read and find out how their writing or poetry or photographs helped them develop their blog and what special skills they learned that helped  them get better.”

I’ll also advise them to take part in the WordPress prompts which gives ideas about what to write. sometimes our mind is blank we are unable to think what to write, the prompts are very helpful when this happens.

DP Daily Prompt: Last Words

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

You have the chance to write one last post before you stop blogging forever.Write it.

This is a very interesting prompt as far as I’m concerned. I’m a blogger for a little over two years, there is not a whole lot I can write about my experience, I must admit I appreciate the opportunity of writing, this is something I did not think about. I was not so confident about my writing skills when I started, a few of my friends gave me the courage I needed.

I cannot claim I am a great writer but I do claim blogging has in many ways improved my lack of confidence. I look forward to the prompts every morning, some are confusing, others help me to write something.

I am not afraid to write a fiction whenever I have to,about poems my feeling is cautious, I do not consider myself a poet at all. I love reading poetry.

My favorite poets are Tagore, Wordsworth, Longfellow, Iqbal, Shelley and many others. Every now and then I read their poems, I do  not try to write poems, I am of the opinion I’m not natural in this Art.

I have written and published a few poems and posted it. They are very simple.

I like writing stories and publishing them. This is one aspect of blogging I like the most, I can write anything without fear that my post may  not be published.

My conclusion is I love blogging, I have something to do daily, I am not bored and I look forward to doing the prompts that WordPress provides for us.

DP Daily Prompts: Audience of One

pad2015-s1.png (308×60)

Picture the one person in the world you really wish were reading your blog. Write her or him a letter.

Dear Sr. Joseph Mary,

I hope you remember me , I am your student Chaman, it’s been a while since I talked to you. I do remember how kind you were.

Since I left college I met Evie and Niaz , both are doing well.

You’d be glad to know I have picked up a new hobby, it’s “Blogging”. I write almost every day and am enjoying it very much.

I’ve translated a lot of Tagore’s song lyrics and his poems. I wish you can find time to read them.

How are you? I am well, it’s cold here in Canada. I only go out when I need to.

My best wishes to you and thank  you so much for all the help you gave me while I was studying in your college.

Yours truly,

Chaman
