Writing Prompt: Fantasy

Tooth Fairy,Easter Bunny,or Santa Claus are all fairy tales. Children love fairy tales such as milkmaid and her pail, the chicken little story, there are a lot of these stories which mothers read to their babies to get them used to listening.

I have done so myself I always felt the little ones knew these are not true stories , but they loved to hear them, because something about them made them invent stories they themselves wanted to hear.

I remember my younger sister once told me about little babies she planted and they have blossomed into gorgeous infants. I was so thrilled I wanted to see them , but I wasn’t able to. Never did I tell her she was lying.

Fantasy is a very powerful work of imagination, it makes us imagine beautiful things and helps us to be creative when we grow up. I still love to read “Grimms Fairy tales”, it takes me where I’d  love to be even though I know it’s only a fantasy.

Make-believe stories are harmless, I don’t see anything wrong to tell stories to help children’s imagination, listening habit and interest. I would not say it is a pointless justification for lying to children. We do not tell these stories to make children better liars but to improve their imagination.

In this poem Tagore is telling us,no one escapes from adversity regardless of who he is.It is a process human beings have to go through,he is no exception. Through his poem entitled “Kabbo” ,which means poetry, he explains it.

O immortal poet,

Wasn’t there joy and sorrow

hope and disappointment in your life,

Just like us?

Did you not face conspiracy, hidden pain?

Were you spared from

Insult,disrespect,suspicion,

wrongful judgement?

You had moments when

you were in need of pity but were deprived.

You also had sleepless nights

heart breaks.

You kept yourself  above

adversity

and wrote poems which blossomed

like the beautiful Lotus.

There was no trace of poverty

you did not let  sorrow and

setback

ruin the sweetness of your poems

and presented it to us before you left!

The  Poetic Art by Rabindranath Tagore

Still wasn’t there sad and happy moments in your life

the quarrel for hope and despair, just like us

O our immortal  poet? Did you not have to face

political meeting, conspiracy, every step of the way?

were you not subjected to the pain of insult,

disregard,deception and unfair verdict,

you witnessed the cruel effects of poverty,

and spent several sleepless nights with a heavy chest.

Still he is above all free and clean

blossomed with beautiful poetry

in the midst of this joyous occasion he has no place

there is no sign of  sadness or adversity.

He struggled with all the misfortunes alone,in the end

bestowed all the great things he achieved to his people.
