365 Writing Prompts: Pants on Fire

What was the last lie you told? Why did you tell it?

Whether it’s the last lie or not, I am not sure. We tell lies for many different reasons, if the lie helps the other person I do not consider it terrible.

Some time ago my brother-in-law went to Bangladesh for a short while, he did not return the day he was supposed to. My husband told me to call him,  I called his home number, there was no answer. My husband asked me to call his work number.

I got his number and called his office after a few rings someone answered . I asked to speak to my brother-in-law. He told me he was not back from Bangladesh.

When I asked him if he knew when he’ll be back, this is the message he gave me, “I don’t know when he’ll be back, I heard his mother died or something.”

My husband was slicing some meat, he asked me, “what did he say?”

I said, “he doesn’t know.”

I knew it was a lie but I couldn’t possibly tell him,”he is delayed because your mother died!”

Writing Prompt: Stranger

Have you ever had a random encounter or fleeting moment with a stranger that stuck with you?

One year I had to go to Chicago to see my brother-in-law and his wife. They had a baby, my husband couldn’t go due to his back. He was in pain 24/7, so he thought we were obligated to see the little infant, since he was unable to go, I’d have to go. I won’t mention about the reception I got this is irrelevant here.

I boarded the plane with my two little ones in the wee hours of the morning. I had to carry their paraphernalia with me, to keep them under control. I reached Montreal safe and sound with my young family. At the airport runway for some reason we had to take a shuttle to go to the airport lounge. We were waiting to get the shuttle, in my mind I was thinking how was I going to carry the bags and hold on to my kids at the same time.

A lady behind called out and said, “I see you need help , let me take one of your kids to help you go on board.”

I was sure I was getting Divine help, I was so thankful to the lady, I couldn’t think of enough words to express how grateful I was.

We reached Chicago at 10 pm. my kids were fast asleep on the plane. When the plane landed and we were ready to get off, I heard another voice behind me, this time it was a gentleman, “Excuse me ma’am, your kids are sleeping, how will you carry them out,let me help you?”

Was this another voice from up above, I thought? I was delighted to take his offer of help, he carried my younger one and my older one woke up, I held her hand and carried the bags with me.

I thanked the gentleman and walked over to see my brother-in-law who came to pick me up. He had a very stupid question which I can’t help but write, “Who was this man?”

“A nice gentleman I said who offered to help me.”

DP Daily Prompt: Green-Eyed Lady

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

We all get jealous from time to time– what wakes the green-eyed monster for you.

Green-Eyed monster I am not

When I become human

you better watch out!

I am usually pretty laid back and don’t worry about who’s getting more attention than me, what I’m saying is little unimportant things don’t spark any kind of jealousy in me.

When I notice someone who is not deserving, but getting far more attention than me I become furious. My feelings go unnoticed for a while, but I take care of it by my “don’t care won’t talk attitude”.

A few years ago my stingy brother-in-law wanted my husband to invite his in-laws to their village home. We were going to Dhaka, my brother-in -law lives in the states,he found out about our trip, without wasting any time he told my husband that he should invite  my brother-in-laws, in-laws to their village home for a meal.

As soon as we arrived in Dhaka,my husband started calling his brother’s in-laws to their village home. His enthusiasm was too much for me to bear, so I sat there in the veranda waiting to give him a piece of my mind.

The opportunity came almost immediately,he asked me something about what did I think, I stayed quiet, he asked,”Is anything wrong?”

I told him he should be ashamed of himself for inviting his brother’s, in-laws and completely ignoring my family. Oh he made a mistake he said and he was going to call them, I didn’t let him because he deliberately did that .

This was one of the times I felt hurt, angry and jealous, I am human after all.

DP Daily Prompt: Never Again Post by Ranu

This is an interesting prompt. I remember I made up my mind never to visit my brother-in -law’s place. He and his wife were mean. I hated every moment I stayed there.

When we came back.I told my husband,I will not go to Chicago,if he plans to stay with his brother and his hideous wife. My husband loved the city. He knew if he didn’t listen to me.I will  stay home.

I did go to Chicago twice after that incident.I stayed with my nephew on one occasion and with a friend the second time.

Some people are born to give a hard time to others. These are jealous useless people,I have no time for them.

Rowboat

Rowboat (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

I have chosen a rowboat for this prompt. My husband’s family lived in the village. Two days after my marriage, I was scheduled to travel to the village, where my in-law’s lived.

This was my first experience on a rowboat. My father was not too enthusiastic taking us to his village because of transportation. Here I was on a narrow boat, the ceiling touching my head. I was a new bride and therefore it was not appropriate to complain. The pace was slow,I wasn’t aware how long it would be before I could free  myself from the pressure of everyone around me.

The boatman was taking his time rowing,he was used to this. He felt great, he was feeling important,my husband hired him.

After about two hours we reached the place where we were to disembark. The wharf, where we were supposed to get off looked like a slimy mound of earth. I was terrified, this was my first time, and I was wearing a sari not the best attire to alight on a slippery path. Embarrassment aside I asked my brother-in-law’s help. With his assistance I was able to walk on the path and reach the building. I breathed a sigh of relief when I crossed this hurdle!
