You’re in a room with your greatest fear. Describe what’s in the room.

It’s a medium sized room, I cannot see any windows. I’ve never known, seen or heard of a room without windows.

I was led by an intriguing voice into this room, the moment I  entered, the door locked as if by magic. I was terrified to catch sight of an over-sized statue of Buddha. I looked around I was surrounded by little statues of devotees posed in a way it looked as if  they were offering something to the Buddha.

I wasn’t sure why they were there, and who put them there. Could it be these were stolen by some burglar, who chanced to break open the doors of a museum and collected everything he saw and decorated this room which obviously belongs to him.

What I  do not understand  is,why I’m here? Last time I checked my mind, it did not tell me, that I was a disciple of Buddha, it makes no sense  for me to be in a windowless room.

I’m not sure how long I was there I felt everything in the room was moving including the statues. They were coming closer, suddenly the giant-sized Buddha let out an earth shattering laughter, I let out a scream and fainted.

Next thing I felt was my husband shaking me,”What’s wrong?” He said.

“It’s the Buddha, take me out of here, I can’t breathe, he is coming close, I think he’ll strangle me!” I said.

My husband had a good laugh over this nightmare I had, he told everyone how loud I was  and how comical I looked.

All I said was, “You know what, it’s not funny!”

365 days Writing Prompt: The Glass?

Is the glass half full or half empty?

I think about this idiom in my day to day life, there are times when I’m an optimist and tell myself the glass is half full, then something happens and my perspective changes I see the glass as half empty.

Buddha remarked, “Life is a creation of the mind”.

Shakespeare said “there is nothing good or bad but thinking makes it so.”

Flip Wilson’s character Geraldine brought this idea to life, when he said,”what you see is what you get”.

Something which is important to note which makes a difference is to understand what we see in our life has a lot to do with how we see it.

We fail to see our lives objectively, we are subjective creatures hence we see our lives through filters. We all have our personalities, we see things differently.

The word therapist frightens us because we are worried they may change us completely, it is a wrong idea according to Psychologists, they try to help us to see the world more accurately to live our life effectively.

I was always made to believe I was a poor student and I’d never be  successful. I was never confident of myself even though my profs. thought I had a lot of potential. I remember I visited a family friend after my final exam, she asked me how was it, ‘will you pass’ ?

As usual I said I did not know.

She remarked,”maybe you’ll pass and will get third class.”

I was unhappy, but lacked the optimism to tell her, no I’ll do better. Here was a person who knew nothing about me but did not hesitate to pass her judgement about my academic capability. It was one of my siblings who put this idea in her mind.

No one in my family ever listened to me with any kind of interest. There was no one in my family who ever took the time to understand to know me.  One person who would have shown interest was my father, sadly he died when I had just turned twelve.

Writing Prompt: Alma Mater

You’ve been asked to speak at your high school Alma Mater about the path of life, Draft the speech.

Good evening ladies and gentlemen, I am here to to talk about the “Path Of Life”. Before I begin my speech,I’d like to use this quote:

“We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts we make the world”. Buddha

Our thoughts can be our friends or our foes depends on which path we choose or what makes us comfortable. Good thoughts will bring good results. If we try to be selfless because it makes us feel good ,we can help those in need.

I have witnessed some terrible people who because of their selfish motives did not follow through a dying man’s wish. I do realize money was the motive, the said person couldn’t give up her greed, I sometimes wonder, yes she has the money but does she have piece of mind knowing she betrayed a brother’s trust? She knows the brother can’t come after her, but what about her conscience,I am told these people are devoid of it, so I guess it works for them.

Buddha is right about ,” All that we are arises with our thoughts”.

When I was in the lower grades in school I imagined myself becoming a teacher. I watched my siblings learning Urdu from a teacher, instantly I knew they were not learning to read but were memorizing the words by repeating the words of the teacher.I asked my sister to read, when she repeated the words without looking at the page I knew I was right.

I took the proper courses to fulfill my dream. It’s the path I chose for myself.

Another part of Buddha’s quote, “With our thoughts we make the world”, all the inventions by famous inventors came to fruition because they thought how to improve our world. Their invention of telephone, airplane, camera, video , TV , automobile etc., has made our lives much more comfortable than the people who didn’t have these things.

Today change of climate is on the list of things we have to think about and do our part of taking care of our planet.

Thank you all for listening to my speech, I hope I did not bore you.
