You have some wonderful, improbable, hoped-for good news. How do you celebrate?

This morning my friend Millie, called me, she said, “guess what Ranu your short stories is ready for publication, the publishers are eager to have an interview with you.”

At first I thought Millie is joking, she does that every now and then to tease me. The phone rang again, I picked it up this time it was the publisher himself, “hello, can I speak to Ranu?”

I jumped I replied “speaking.”

“I am Stuart from Stuart publishing company, we have selected your short stories for publication, can you come and see us.”

See us? This is the best news I’ve heard in days. I got ready and went to the company situated on Fleet Street. After a few minor discussions, Mr. Stuart handed me the contract.

I came home, called Millie, she came in a jiffy after discussing various ways to celebrate this awesome news, we settled for a fabulous tea party with family and friends in my home.

Millie volunteered to bake the cake, Anna wanted to bring her mom’s best pizza, I offered to make samosas, and gulab jamans.

I also ordered hot chicken wings from Boston Pizza.

We decided to have the party on  Saturday, to enable everyone to join us at the party. The party was in the afternoon, the girls came with all sorts of food, there were donuts, cookies and mouth watering pastries. All this added to the food we made, looked delightful. Millie’s four tiered cake stole the show.

The party started in the afternoon, I  had to taste everyone’s food, everything was delicious. We made so much noise, it was one of those days when we were in a celebratory mood, no one cared about the noise, after all days like this only comes once in a blue moon.

After the party I looked at the tables there was so much food left, I quickly put them in packages and handed one to each  guest on their way out!

DP Daily Prompts: Getting Seasonal

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

The holiday season can’t get enough of it, or can’t wait for it to be over already? Has your attitude toward the end-of-year holidays changed over the years?

I do not celebrate Christmas, but truly speaking I love watching people enjoying this year-end holidays.

The air is filled with smiling faces of the children the adults busy with last minute shopping, the TV networks advertising their wares to attract the attention of shoppers.

While it is a joyful time of the year for some not so much for the have-not’s who are probably spending sleepless nights worrying about their little ones, how much can they spend for their kids to make them happy.

I don’t mind the hustle and bustle that goes on and am in no hurry to see the season end. This is the time politics and politicians take a break from their usual bickering, the focus changes to family and friends and neighbors.

I do my usual shopping of buying cards, chocolate and other little things for my friends and neighbors. I do buy a small turkey for us to roast either on Christmas day or the next day. I love the atmosphere. My favorite songs are the Christmas carols, especially”Joy to the World!”

DP Daily Prompts: Trio no. 4

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

Today you can write about anything, in whatever genre or form, but your post must include a speeding car, a phone call, and a crisp bright morning.( Wildcard: you can swap any of the above for a good joke.)

Yesterday was a bright crisp morning. I went out to gather the leaves, which fell after the wind storm, instead of calling the lawn care people again to clear the leaves, I took advantage of a rain free day.

I probably gathered a few handfuls when I felt my feet were cold, the sun was deceiving actually it was very cold. I stopped and came inside. I picked up my phone and called the visa company about the confusion of my refund, she told me everything was fine and I have nothing to worry.

My attention was distracted when I heard a lot of noise on the street outside my house, to my horror there was a  student running with a bottle in his hand, he stole it from the nearby house and wanted to celebrate his failure in the midterm exam. I was in awe someone celebrating for failing an exam, this is new, I’ve never heard it before.

I went out of the house to find out if it was true, I asked my neighbor, she told me this particular student already failed twice, he was warned by his parents if he failed again he’d have to pack his bags and come  home.

The said student tried to convince his parents university was not for him, he’d rather work on a farm, look after cattle and grow his own food. When he couldn’t convince them he took the route of failing his courses, “smart isn’t it,” my neighbor quipped!

365 Writing Prompts: Celebrate good times

You received some wonderful,improbable,hoped- for good news. How do you celebrate?

Lately I cannot recall any news that is good, improbable, hoped for so there is very little to celebrate.

I usually celebrate good news by inviting a few of my friends to supper, I cook their favorite dish, we spend the evening discussing everything from world news to global warming. We come up with certain things that can slow down the process , then again I’m not sure if the damage done is irreversible.

In Canada I found out the province of Ontario was pushing the slogan,”Reduce,Reuse,Recycle,”  many years ago our province has only started this only a short while.

Given the fact global warming is a major concern, I am not sure, if the citizens of the world are trying to see what they can do to help.

We’d discuss all this and when all is said and done with, we settle in our homes and try to forget what is happening to the planet of ours.
