Tell us about your favorite way to get lost in a simple activity– running, chopping vegetables, folding laundry, whatever. What’s it like when you’re in the zone?
I consider chopping vegetables one of the most boring things we’re made to do. Why can’t I tell the vegetables to chop themselves and be ready for me to cook which can make my work so much easier, all I have to do is cook.
On dull dreary days when I sit with a basket full of vegetables to chop wash and get ready for supper. My mind wanders off to my past, when the rabbits in our vegetable garden would lie on the garden and swiftly eat the carrots they could get hold of. The gardener would hastily shoo them off, so his vegetable garden is not a mess.
I’d get immense pleasure watching the rabbits and the gardener having a battle, one trying to save the vegetables the other trying to gobble it up.
I’d be the bystander asking the gardener what happened and laughed whenever he complained about the rabbits destroying his garden, “Do something I’d say. ”
He’d be angry and reply, “do what Bibi, tell me?”
“Control those rabbits, ” I’d say.
He’d murmur something under his breath and move on.
Those times were happy times, I did not have to chop vegetables, the servant did. We ate the ready made product. Suddenly I’d hear my daughter, “Mom are you daydreaming, I’m hungry, can you cook fast?”
I must have done the same thing to my mom, asking her to finish cooking so I could eat. Those were the days I thought will never end but it did and I feel nostalgic thinking about them.
