Daily Prompt : Buff

In response to daily post’s one-word prompt : Buff

My brother’s car!

Back when we  were young living in Comilla, Bangladesh, my older brother got a job as an Assistant Manager, in one of Duncan Brothers Tea estates. He earned enough money to buy himself a new car. In my eyes he worshipped it  nothing more than this new addition in his life.

He’d wake up every morning, and routinely clean, polish , rub and Buff his car. He’d spend at least an hour or two, and then he’d move about to see how gorgeous it looked. After satisfying his eyes, he’d call me looking very proud, ‘Ranu look, what do you think, did I not do a good job?’

My reply was the same, ‘yes you did, can I touch it!’

In his deep voice he’d reply, ‘no you’ll make it dirty.’

Mom would come out from her room and laugh, she’d say, ‘I’ve never seen such a (adekhle it’s a Bengali word means possessive person) possessive person.

Meanwhile we’d all join in and make fun of him. Those days are so memorable and I wish they lasted for ever!

Daily Prompt : Clean

In response to daily post’s prompt : Clean

Here in our city it’s sunny and everything looks Clean, until you go for a walk and look at the sidewalk. The piled up snow from days of accumulation look muddy, it’s no longer white but looks beige. What causes it to change the beautiful white to a beige color. It’s simple the  piled up snow in a few days turns to ice when rain falls. The city sends the workers to spray salt and sand to make it safe for pedestrians. Eventually the air blows some of it on the sides and discolors the snow on the side.

The air in our city is comparatively cleaner than the large cities, but there are many cars, and fuel used to run them, pollutes our environment. We do not have factories therefore there is not that much  pollution.

My husband lived in Chicago for six years, he said the city was so polluted, he had to take a shot daily to be able to breathe, same was true in Montreal. After we moved to Newfoundland, he did not need the shots to help him breathe.

Daily Prompt: Idyllic

What does you ideal community look like? How is it organized, and how is community life structured? What values does the community share?

My ideal community is a medium sized city, it is neat and clean, in times of snow the city workers clear the snow. Garbage is collected weekly. Every other week we are supposed to collect recyclable items separately and the regular garbage in normal bags, and place them on the curb.

We have a postal system, they deliver our mail Monday to Friday.

We have a number of grocery stores where we can buy fresh and frozen produce, also fresh milk, cheese, and butter. These stores also carry cleaning stuff.

We have volunteers who take care of food and clothing donated by the citizens.

We have hospitals where the patients are treated by trained physicians.

We have one university, it offers a variety of courses to the students, from computer science to medicine and arts and science as well.

Our airport is international, you can travel anywhere from here, of course one has to use connecting flights.

We have a variety of festivals which the people can enjoy at certain times of the year.

I think our community is an ideal community.

DP Daily Prompt: One at a Time

pad2014-s.png (308×60)

Today write a post about the topic of your choice— using only one syllable words.

Wait nice girl , I can give you one wish , what do you want?  I told June.

Can you give me a pen? she asked, I need it to write on my hand.

But why I said, your hand will not look clean.

June said: I do not have cash to buy a book, can you give me some? One day I will pay you back.

I gave her some coins to buy a book.

June bought the book, came back to show me.

How nice I said, now you can write in your book.

From that day on  June and I were best friends!

I just realized how difficult it is to use only one   syllable words.

365 Writing Prompts: Cleaning house

Is there “junk” in your life? How do you get rid of it?

When I look at the stuff we collected over the years I wonder, how will I get rid of it. It is not easy, but it has to be done. I have taken care of some, but there is much more left that needs to leave the cozy comfort of my house to somewhere which might be appreciated.

I had a burgundy velvet sofa set, I liked it a lot but thought it was in my house long enough, it was time for it to find a new home.I called the city, paid for the service and had it out in my lawn, the passers by, questioned whether I was really throwing it out, one motorist said, “Why it’s in such a good shape?”

I ignored what he had to say, left it out in  the yard, one guy in a pick up truck showed up thirty minutes later, loaded his truck and drove away.

This is how the furniture was taken care of, there are other things that I need to say good-bye to, with the weather getting cooler the frequent rainfall keeps me from putting it out on the curb, the question in my mind is, what if no one picks it up the thought of dragging it all back in is not an option,so I’d have to wait for a better season to clean my house.

DP Daily Prompt: Lookin’ Out My Back Door

Look at your back window…describe what you see ,as if you were trying to convey the scene to someone from another country or planet.

I am trying to describe to my brother who lives in Dhaka what I can see from my back window. My house is in the corner of two streets, the guys who plow the streets are very cruel especially when we have a snowstorm.

What is a snowstorm, it’s like when you have a cyclone,it is windy, the things are blown away and instead of rain we have this fluffy white stuff which is called snow.

When the snow blocks the streets the guy who drives the plow clears off the streets for vehicles to move freely without getting stuck. The part we don’t like is all this snow is dumped at the end of our driveway, we cannot get out if we don’t clear it by shovelling or using  a snow blower.

The unfortunate part for us is we get snow dumped at the end of our driveway from two sides, which makes the work of clearing our snow harder.

From my back window I see snow on my patio and snow on my driveway. The snow at the end of the driveway is dirty because while clearing the streets the plowman also dumps the mud, plastic bags, coffee cups and other food wraps, these are thrown by people who are not interested to keep our city clean.

I can also see my neighbor’s driveway, she keeps her path clean. The trees are naked, because when the cold weather comes the leaves fall off, and grow back when it starts to be warm.

I can also see students walking to the university,it’s hard to see their faces because they are bundled up to stay warm. You can see some vehicles moving, these are delivery trucks, the private cars leave early morning for work.

This is all, there are no flowers, pretty birds or green grass visible right now, they’ll show up soon I hope!

DP Daily Prompt: Procrastination Post by Ranu

Procrastination

Procrastination (Photo credit: MrSchuReads)

In elementary school I was flooded with idioms. We were given these daily to write a story. When I read the prompt, immediately I thought of.”Procrastination is the thief of time.” We were always reminded to use our time wisely.

There are a number of things I have left to be done later. I know it is not the right thing to do. I bought novels I wanted to read. I have them on my shelf,I guess they are wondering when will I read them.

At this very moment I am thinking of cleaning my room.I have neglected it for a long time. Hopefully the word,”Procrastination”,will make me start.

So my blogger friends,I am getting ready to do my chores. My intention is to read my books next. Au Revoir (see you later).
